From a very young age, Lisa Shirley's young sons spent a lot of time upside down or flinging themselves all over the place. She thinks this probably came from her being a gymnast who spends so much time at the gymnastics club. Some of the books about gymnastics they could find at those times were more of an educational textbook type or were aimed above her children's years. Because of this, Shirley decided to come up with her own book which is more suited to their age and interests. It prompted her to write "Timmy Tumbles" (published by AuthorHouse UK).

The book tells the story of Timmy, a young boy who struggles to sit still. He wants to practice gymnastics all the time, but of course he has to go to school. Timmy has his own way of combining a usual school day with his love of gymnastics, but later, he discovers gymnastics does not always come easy to him and learns not to give up when things go wrong.

"My book will appeal to young children, particularly those with an interest in gymnastics and many will be able to empathize with Timmy somewhere in the story," Shirley says. "The story is short and lighthearted and fully illustrated."

Shirley would like readers to enjoy reading the book and realize that it is normal for all that activity to develop a good appetite and that food for fuel is important. She also wanted to reiterate that good old saying "if at first you don't succeed, try and try again."
