Thirty years ago, a shadowy figure stalked the cities of Montreal and Calgary, abducting women, violating them, and sinking his teeth into their breasts, before brutally ending their lives and disposing of their unmoving bodies. Serial killer Wayne Boden was finally caught by matching the bite marks on his victims with his dental records. These gruesome events would inspire author Lawrence James to pen his own story, a thrilling tale of suspense that invites readers to follow two FBI agents who must hunt down a ruthless murderer and, in the process, unlock the mystery of the Nightbirds.

In this graphic and violent story, FBI agents Lou Mark and Tom Anglen must stop a serial killer before he becomes the most prolific murderer in United States history. Driven by events that occurred many years before and a perspective that requires his own form of brutal redemption, the killer quickly targets and murders each victim, leaving behind a body and a signature in the trophy he takes from each of them.

Mark is a relatively young FBI agent with a unique gift, while Anglen is an experienced FBI agent who has worked in the Serial Killer Division for 20 years. Mark and Anglen track the serial killer from one city to another. The women the murderer chooses are all strikingly similar in age and appearance and at each crime scene, Mark and Anglen see what appears to have been consensual sex, followed almost immediately by a savage murder. At the middle of this, the two agents discover another mystery, which intersects with their manhunt, and it becomes a race against time - with the lives of innocent bystanders on the line - when they realize that they have to understand the legend of the Nightbirds to catch the killer.

James' tale is uncompromising, cerebral and graphic. It is akin to a bullet train going at full speed, destined for a terminal and final destination of violence. Fans of the thriller and suspense genres will find Nightbirds to be a gripping read that will keep them on the edge of their seats from its first page to its very last.
