Jono Hardjowirogo's Book Tells an Orphan's Life, Unravels its Mystery Jono Hardjowirogo believes there are very few stories from Java, Indonesia that are known outside of the country. He wants to bring one with Java as its backdrop and it prompted him to write "Noto of Java: A Tale of Love, Struggle, and Ascension in a Land of Ambiguity" (published by Xlibris in May 2012). Set for a new marketing campaign, this novel tells the story of Noto, an orphan who succeeded in business as well as in the military. He started a batik delivery business while still in high school by employing some of his classmates. Eventually the business became so successful that by the time he graduated from high school it already have branches in several major cities throughout Java. While he studied at the military academy and after he became an army officer, Noto entrusted his business to others to run. The business continued to prosper even while he was in the army.

One day while on leave from the army, while perusing through the photo album of a relative, Noto saw the picture of his deceased mother who, as it turned out, was a long missing court dance teacher. This discovery led him to the palace where the current Sultan told him an incredible story. It seemed that Noto's father would have been king had he not decided to run away after he accidentally killed his parents (the previous king and queen) in a car accident. The current Sultan as it turned out is none other than his uncle. Since his uncle does not have a son, he decided to restore the line of succession by making Noto the crown prince.

"Noto of Java: A Tale of Love, Struggle, and Ascension in a Land of Ambiguity," is interlaced with cultural details of the history, food, mythologies, traditions and rituals of the Javanese as well as details of the social, political and religious factions within the whole of Indonesia.
