Jim Hawn, a retired Marine Corps Master Gunnery Sergeant, has completed his first book "Post 1": a gripping and powerful work of modern fiction with twists and turns that make this enthralling page turner an engrossing obsession from start to finish.

Author Jim Hawn said of his inspiration to write this book, "I am a retired Marine Corps Master Gunnery Sergeant. My tours of duty included assignments as the Marine Security Guard Detachment Commander at the American Embassy in Helsinki, Finland, and Brazzaville, Congo. The people assigned to the Embassy were among the finest people I ever served with. I've seen many movies that depict Marines as unintelligent automatons who loudly shout responses to questions, such as the Marines depicted in "A Few Good Men" or other service personnel in other television shows. I remember the 1986 movie, "Windmills of the Gods", which showed Marines moving through an Embassy function acting as interior guards subject to the orders of the Defense Attaché, something that just doesn't happen. I wanted to write a book showing Marines as they really are, quiet, intelligent and caring professionals."

Published by New York City-based Page Publishing, Jim Hawn's poignant tale depicts Marine servicemen and women in a true-to-life light from the eyes of one of their own. It is a luminous example of the creative potential of the human mind.

In the early 1990s, the Republic of Congo is at the precipice of change. The country is undergoing a democratic process, and the American embassy is caught in the crossfire. Gunnery Sergeant Bob Turner arrives on assignment as the Detachment Commander of the embassy's Marine Security Guard Detachment. Accompanying him are his wife and two children. As Gunny Turner adjusts to a new life in a foreign land, a storm is brewing both in his life and in the country. Bob's wife is not happy with the assignment, and Bob has to balance dealing with her anger and carrying out his duties. As tension in the host nation escalates, Bob must keep his wits with him as his family's safety is threatened and as he and his Marines safeguard American lives and protect their embassy from protesters intent on taking over.

Readers who wish to experience this potent work can purchase"Post 1" at bookstores everywhere, or online at the Apple iTunes store, Amazon, Google Play or Barnes and Noble.
