In The Tortoise Shell Comb (published by AuthorHouse), author Jean-Pierre Angel uses his own experiences together with first-hand accounts of other child survivors during the Nazi occupation of France to create a truly harrowing story of courage and survival.

The tale is told from the point of view of Simon Crespi, a young Jewish boy who is the son of modest immigrants to France from Turkey. Beginning with the arrest of his father in Paris in 1941 and his subsequent disappearance, and continuing with his own internment together with his mother and sister before he is brutally separated from them, Simon lives a nightmare which will stretch over years.

After his escape from the internment camp, Simon is left to fend for himself. Alone in the French countryside and in Paris without identity papers or ration cards, Simon roams the streets, led by a single question: how can he be reunited with his family? His only tangible link is the tortoise shell comb that his mother wore in her hair and that he now holds in his pocket.

A sensitive and generous eye-opening novel which 70 years later recounts the story of the Holocaust in a form that is moving, easy to read and accessible by all.
