In the world of classical ballet, the word "reverence" has more than the above meanings. It is demonstrated in many ways throughout one's entire life of dance. It starts by physically using reverence in the form of a curtsy or a bow. As a very little girl, even before learning ballet, author Janet Sassoon was trained to curtsy to her elders. She also curtsied after a piano lesson or any other kind of instruction. Then comes ballet class, where from the very first day, everyone is expected to curtsy to their teachers as they exited the studio. This gesture became automatic for the author as much a part of her life.

"REVERENCE" tells the tale of Janet Sassoon who at seven years old starts to study ballet and dreams of becoming a prima ballerina. She studied at the San Francisco Ballet and is encouraged to dance. She started in the opera when they needed a small elf to go on stage where Salvatore Baccaloni was sleeping under a tree, with this small elf poking him in the opera Falstaff. The blue lights were enchanting, and every minute was sheer heaven for her. This humbling experience marks the beginning of a profession that demands her total love and dedication.

In this book, Sassoon describes what goes on in a company that tours and dances every night on different stages. It takes readers on a journey from her childhood into adolescence and beyond as she gives an idea of what happened in her quest for a career in the art of classical ballet. From choreographers who create a new ballet, readers will also get an inside track into a dressing room filled with nerves and excitement.

"REVERENCE" follows Janet Sassoon into the world of ballet as she shares to readers not only her passion for this art, but also its human side including the good times, its humorous moments and those of tragedies. Indeed, performing ballets and making reverence nightly were what she always did with all her heart. The magic it brings filled her with so much joy, passion and love.
