While overlooking the glistening waters of the Lynn Canal inlet, the waterway connecting his hometown of Haines, Alaska to the rest of the state, Erwin Hertz was inspired to share his 50+ year adventure of hair, hide, guts and feathers.

In Journey Toward Eternal Life - Alaska Style, this 77-year-old storyteller portrays the adventures of finding life and spirituality in unlikely places. With a twist of charismatic wit, Hertz depicts the challenges and successes of the life outside the normal American suburbia: from primitive farm life in Montana, to the strict rules of the Navy, and ultimately the ruggedly beautiful life as an Alaskan logger and railroad worker in the 1960's.

Throughout the memoir, Hertz explains his transition from a young adult with a fractured back, due to a logging accident, to his life as an outdoorsman who used persona; tenacity and nature, as the ultimate medication and motivation for healthy living. Disseminating this practical encouragement of God and nature, Journey Toward Eternal Life - Alaska Style aims to answer questions of spirituality, faith and God's miracles.

"This memoir reveals my authentic adventurous journey and relationship with God, which is never dull," says Hertz. "My story blends topics of self-acceptance, thoughts of suicide, coping with the loss of a child and the humor in life to illustrate how a human's willingness to seek God in unexpected times and places bring about amazing personal discoveries."
