Ian Mote has experienced everything China has to offer - the skyscrapers and blinding lights of Shanghai, the fields of the humblest rural villages, and everything in between. Mote has traveled to every province of the Middle Kingdom, seeing more of the country than most native Chinese.

Mote's travels have given him an unparalleled understanding of the Chinese way of life. He's dined with the wealthiest of the wealthy and drunk with the poorest of the poor. These unique experiences make him an insightful resource for Westerners interested in Chinese culture.

"From Chicken Feet to Crystal Baths," Mote's new book, is a collection of stories from his journeys through China, filled with tales ranging from the astounding to the hysterical.

Mote is a British expatriate living in Shanghai. His business dealings and thirst for adventure have driven his travel across China. Although he has lived in the country for years, he remains astonished by the diversity contained within China's borders.

"The title of the book refers to the huge contrasts seen in China, such as the extreme chasm between eating chicken feet - originally consumed by the very poor, who could not afford any waste - and solid crystal baths, whose sales are aimed at the newly rich," Mote said. "I have been in the Himalayas and the Gobi Desert, gone scuba diving, been in the rain forest, gone to an ice festival where the temperature was twenty degrees below zero - all within China."

Born in London, an extended stay in America at a young age opened Ian Mote's eyes to the possibility of the wide world around him. After spending four years living in Hong Kong and two in Dubai, Mote has resided in Shanghai since 2008.
