Former military man Hank Newman is a simple man with simple tastes: alcohol to chase away memories of his violent past and morning runs to chase away the resulting hangovers. Being unemployed, the 53-year-old jumps at the chance to make some easy money by delivering a memory stick to Bangkok, not realizing that he'll need to tap into his uncanny knack for survival, according to this new thriller. Once he reaches Thailand, he finds delivering the memory stick isn't as simple as he thought because powerful organizations also want it and will stop at almost nothing to get it.

The plot thickens in "Newman's Rubicon" as Hank starts questioning the motives behind the delivery, who his true allies are and why people connected to the delivery begin turning up dead. A longtime love provides welcome support. Hank must call on his knowledge of the country to finish his task - and receive the money - and escape those who try to thwart him. Most surprising of all is that the military past he seeks to escape may provide the very skills that allow him to elude his pursuers. Although Hank hopes delivering the memory stick will conclude his involvement, he's well aware that anything can happen.

This is the first novel for author Finn Farnsworth, who deftly weaves a suspenseful tale set mainly in Thailand. Its exotic food, culture and geography serve as a colorful backdrop as the characters encounter each other, sometimes with unexpected results. Farnsworth spent four years in the U.S. Marine Corps before earning a business degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He served another 21 years with the Marines as an aviator. Now he splits his time between Chesapeake Bay and a small island in the Gulf of Thailand, where he owns a beachfront pub.
