FAIRFAX, Va.

According to Dr. Patricia Ferdinand, the journey for people of African descent is an uphill struggle given the racial divide in America. Nevertheless, she believes that with God as their guide, they will make it.

"Affirmative Action" (published by Xlibris) documents Dr. Ferdinand's life as a young girl from Kingston, Jamaica who came to the United States to gain education in science. She overcame all the obstacles and became a successful college professor who continues to mentor and give birth to other young people seeking a career in science.

This book acknowledges the presence of God in a person's life and how God's purpose is fulfilled in the life of those who believe in him. Dr. Ferdinand's story is a reflection of someone who has never given up to achieve her goals in life. As a professor in biology, she teaches and inspires her students to be focused, diligent and determined to achieve their goals.

"This book is written to inspire and to cause young African Americans to believe in themselves, and believe in their ability to achieve their educational goals. It is a testimony that with diligent focused effort, they can succeed," Dr. Ferdinand said.
