In the poetry collection, "Nuggets of Gold" (published by Trafford Publishing) by Dorothy J. Matter, readers find a coming-of-age story linking the more than 100 poems.

Sporting colorful language and quaint expressions, Matter's poems espouse the joys and unique challenges of growing up in America during the mid-twentieth century. "They remind us of those times when we were growing up and life was good," says Matter, "little things that mean so much now that they are past."

Gearing her collection to her senior citizen contemporaries, Matter hopes to spark kind remembrances of one's past. She will be attending the Frankfurt book show later this year.

An excerpt from "Grandma's Treasure" in "Nuggets of Gold":

"In a far corner of the attic;
In a trunk with a rusty lid,
A wealth of heart-felt treasures
From the eyes of the world are hid'.

An old woman ponders
Over its contents with care,
'Tho the wear of time has discolored them
Since she gracefully laid them there.

A tiny baby bunting,
A picture baby face..."
