Commonwealth Books of Virginia Releases THOMAS JEFFERSON'S ENLIGHTENMENT in Paperback Today

Commonwealth Books of Virginia will release the paperback edition of Thomas Jefferson's Enlightenment - Paris 1785 today, September 10, 2014.

James Thompson places his readers in Jefferson's company so they can watch as he transforms from the circumspect political loner who wrote the Declaration of Independence alone in his Philadelphia rooms into the engaged political leader who waged and won the Second American Revolution in the President election of 1800.

Mr. Thompson uses period maps to show readers where Jefferson went while getting his bearings in the French capital. He incorporates dozens of museum quality images and illustrations into his narrative so readers can see what Jefferson saw and meet the people Jefferson met as Cabanis prepared him to circulate in French society and become join the duc de la Rochefoucauld's elite circle of reformers. The author contends that it was this engage reform-minded progressive, not the aloof author or the Declaration of Independence, who waged second America's revolution in the Presidential election of 1800.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
James Thompson studied Philosophy as an undergraduate and graduate student at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia. He lived for the four years of his graduate studies on the farm of Thomas Jefferson's eldest daughter, Martha Jefferson Randolph. During those years, he began to explore "the philosophy" of Thomas Jefferson. Mr. Thompson cultivated his interest in the History of Ideas teaching courses in Philosophy, Religion, and Ethics and Western Civilization at Strayer University in Alexandria, Virginia. He completed his first book, "Beyond the Veil of Reason - Thomas Jefferson's Early Political Initiatives," as a Batten Fellow at the Jefferson Center for International Studies at Monticello. Commonwealth Books of Virginia published "The Birth of Virginia's Aristocracy" in 2009 and "The Dubious Achievement of the First Continental Congress" in 2011. "The First Revolutions in the Minds of the People" will be released in the fall of 2014. The release date for "George Washington's Indispensable Man - Who is Will Lee" has not yet been finalized.
