Catherine Lydia Russell marks her debut in the world of children's literature with the delightful picture book, Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep. Mixing basic principles of mathematics and the magic of creative fiction, this new book may be read as a bedtime story or as a medium for teaching.

Told in a catchy rhyming narrative, Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep tells the story of a young boy who, as he lays on his bed waiting to drift off to sleep, counts sheep in his head. The imaginative setting is inspired by the author's childhood spent on a farm and her own children's 4-H projects.

Aside from captivating readers with its beautiful, hand drawn illustrations and storyline, Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep also teaches several different counting methods and their application. It also features questions fun trivia and a number of questions designed to help readers do higher order thinking and question the different outcomes.

"I wrote this book to inspire young minds to explore the ways to count. This story will not only entertain the reader, but hopefully give them a reason to do some math," Russell says.

Great for reading alone or aloud, Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep is a wonderful introduction into the world of basic mathematics and counting. It is a must-have for parents and teachers who want to make their storytelling activities with children a more rewarding and educational experience.
