"Georgie, Angel of Cell-Block Six" (published by Xlibris) follows the story of a small, handicapped boy with a magnificent voice, whose gift led him into great trouble. It takes a deep look into another era's reality and the life of a damaged child with a great gift.?

Carol O'Brien, the author of this historical fiction book, shares that a fascinating family story inspired her to write this book. "Once I searched through the Post-Dispatch from 1908 to 1909 I realized it was all true and I decided to get it out there."

Set in St. Louis, "Georgie, Angel of Cell-Block Six" brings readers back about 100 years and immerses them in the reality of the era. The story of Georgie was so well documented in the Post Dispatch that the reality of his astonishing life is apparent.

An excerpt from this book:
Six years old, Georgie recorded «Anybody Here Seen Kelly?» for Erker Brothers and made twenty dollars. When he was seven he sang a medley of operatic airs at a benefit for the Sick and Death Fund and wouldn't accept any money because it «for poor sick people. » His picture was on the front page of the Post-Dispatch, and people stopped him on the street to tell him he was « grand. »???

O'Brien hopes that readers may enjoy the dip into the old days and the truly extraordinary life of a child star.
