Brain Hive, LLC, a Minneapolis-based education company, announced today that its on-demand digital book club has expanded to include highly acclaimed and award-winning children's and young adult titles from Candlewick Press. Brain Hive launched in 2012 to support digital reading in K-12 schools. Schools join Brain Hive's one-of-a-kind book club at no cost and enjoy unlimited access to more than 7,000 fiction and nonfiction titles on demand for just $1 per checkout through a "pay per use" model. In the two years since the first reader "clicked out" a Brain Hive book, student membership has grown to 660,000, with more than 490,000 pages read over nearly 60,000 hours.

"We are excited to partner with Brain Hive in our effort to broaden the distribution of Candlewick Press books in the school market, and especially into classrooms," said Kathleen Rourke, Executive Director of Educational Sales and Marketing for Candlewick Press. "Brain Hive's innovative approach to the emerging digital education marketplace provides an accessible and engaging platform for our catalog."

As one of the country's most respected and admired independent publishers, Candlewick Press offers readers some of the most popular titles, authors, and illustrators of our time. With Newbery Medal winners and Newbery Honor books such as The Tale of Despereaux by National Ambassador for Children's Literature Kate DiCamillo and Splendors and Glooms by Laura Amy Schlitz; popular series and characters including Judy Moody, Mercy Watson, Ruby Redfort, and Maisy; and more; these additions are bound to inspire a lifelong love of reading and learning among Brain Hive members.

"With the addition of Candlewick Press to the Hive, we're thrilled to offer even more popular titles kids love on the devices they can't live without," said Brain Hive President Terri Soutor. "Demand for digital content is exploding, and we're making it easy and affordable for K-12 libraries to expand their digital collection while empowering educators to make reading more engaging, social, affordable and measurable than ever before."

Brain Hive has remained the first and only on-demand digital book club of its kind, offering K-12 schools a curated selection of high-quality eBooks from the nation's leading children's publishers including Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, Charlesbridge Publishing, Highlights for Children, Kids Can Press, Lee & Low Books, Lerner Publishing Group, Open Road Integrated Media, and more. Membership allows schools to instantly expand their eBook collection, with interactive tools and teaching resources that include Accelerated Reader quizzes from Renaissance Learning. In addition to changing the eBook purchasing paradigm, Brain Hive supports reading and learning by making it social and fun, with interactive tools that engage readers while evaluating reading activity and tying every dollar spent to a child reading-a critical return on investment consideration for schools.

Brain Hive will continue to release new titles from additional publishers offering a dynamic, continually updated content library to support teaching and learning in schools.
