VENICE, Fla.

As a huge fan of golf- both as a player and spectator, author Bill Williams finds the lack of Harry Vardon literature a huge gap in the documented history of the golfing sport. Motivated by this, he puts together a definitive record of the playing career of "one of the greatest golfers who has ever lived." "Harry Vardon" (published by Xlibris) is both a biographic account and a memoir that details not only the career record of Vardon but also a comparative literature of golf history then and now.

Champion golfer and Jersey man Harry Vardon earned a notable place in the history of golf during the stretch of his career in the later part of the 19th century. Having reached a high water mark of success, his achievements remain unprecedented in the annals of the game even to this day. But what made him the champion of champions? In this book, Williams revisits the humble beginnings of Vardon and his gradual yet certain journey to success. Along with the progress of the story, readers will also learn about the significant events during his time and how it shaped golf as it is known today.

"I feel it important to illustrate to the reader how the life of a professional golfer differs in Vardon's era to that of a present day PGA Tour player," says Williams. "What was the norm in the late 19th century is quite different from today and I believe the reader should be aware of that before making a judgment about someone like Harry Vardon. Hopefully, this book could bring Harry Vardon back to life and put him and his peers, in the forefront of all the great golfers who have played the game."
