In her book, "The Tale of Stubby Q. Broome" (published by Author House), the late author Beverly Lorraine Barrett Lowery conveys the message that everyone has value. No one, not even someone with disabilities, is useless.

The book, about a broom called Stubby that lives on a dairy farm, is co-authored by Anita Gail Lowery, Beverly's daughter. "This is a simple story with principles that can be useful throughout one's life," says Anita. "This story can help children and adults with disabilities build self esteem."

"The Tale of Stubby Q. Broome" draws on real life incidents to weave stories that stress on the importance of positivity, hope and helpfulness. "Being of service to others brings happiness. This is a story of giving and sharing one's talents with a happy heart," says the author.

An excerpt from "The Tale of Stubby Q. Broome"

"Stubby's little wooden heart was so stricken with grief and he missed Missy's company and their walks about the farm. Stubby did not want to become a barn tool, he wanted back at the house. How was Stubby going to help Missy now...."

Anita hopes "The Tale of Stubby Q. Broome" will inspire people to find a way to help others, no matter what their capabilities or limitations might be.

About the Author
Born in the historic town of Bellefonte, Pa. , Beverly Lorraine Barrett Lowery grew up on a farm near Curtin Village. She loved reading and writing stories, and shared them with her 22 grandchildren on the family farm. Beverly's daughter, Anita Gail Lowery, a retired Special Education assistant teacher, found a series of stories Beverly had written before she succumbed to cancer. Anita found the simple tale of Stubby "a perfect fit" for her and her beliefs, which is why she decided to share it with the world.
