Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE:BKS), one of the nation's largest booksellers and the leading retailer of content, digital media and educational products, today announced that Barnes & Noble stores nationwide will host a free Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Hard Luck release party today, November 5.

The luck-themed party celebrates book 8 in the bestselling series, in which "Wimpy Kid" Greg Heffley finds himself going through a losing streak. His best friend, Rowley Jefferson, has ditched him, and finding new friends in middle school is proving to be a tough task. Greg decides to turn his decisions over to chance, leaving readers to discover whether or not a roll of the dice will turn things around.

Party-goers will try their luck at "Wimpy Bingo," compete for prizes in trivia contests, pose as the Wimpy Kid himself in a photo op station, receive collectible Wimpy Kid bracelets and posters, color Wimpy Kid book covers, enjoy refreshments and more.

"Our booksellers and customers love the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, and our stores are excited to host celebrations to launch this new book in the series," said Sarah DiFrancesco, Vice President, Business Development for Barnes & Noble. "Booksellers are already planning ways to enhance the parties with additional luck-themed activities, from card readers and fortune tellers to family-themed card and board games."

The fun will continue at the NOOK counter as digital experts demonstrate Wimpy Kid NOOK Books, audiobooks and videos on the critically acclaimed NOOK HD+, packed with pixels to deliver text, graphics and video with stunning HD clarity. Stores with larger NOOK Boutiques will utilize their NOOK counter as a "digital divination station," entertaining attendees with readings from the popular "Fortune Cookie" and "Magic 8-Ball" apps.

In addition, booksellers are planning fun food offerings, from vivid lime-green sugar cookies to bite-size cubes of Swiss cheese. (Adults are invited to ask their children about the importance of cheese in the Wimpy Kid story).

The Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Hard Luck release party event is free and open to the public. For further details, contact any Barnes & Noble store, or visit the Barnes & Noble Store Locator.
