BWW News: George R. R. Martin Announces a New GAME OF THRONES Related Book Dropping This Fall!
Yesterday, George R.R. Martin and his publisher Random House unveiled a brand-new book in the A Song of Ice and Fire [aka Game of Thrones] line coming this fall--but no, it's not the highly-anticipated, long-overdue THE WINDS OF WINTER.
The book, entitled FIRE AND BLOOD, is over 600 pages and comes out November 20th. It's not, however, a traditional compendium like what has been previously published. This book was compiled by Archmaester Gyldayn for the citizens of Westeros, and just happens to be shared in our world as well. It chronicles the history of the Targaryen kings and queens, some of which has been referred to in the novels, in his compendium THE WORLD OF ICE AND FIRE, and even binds up some short stories that have been previously published. There will be more than 75 illustrations by Doug Wheatley scattered throughout as well, such as this one:
FIRE AND BLOOD will be the first of two volumes, and Martin has stated on his blog:
This first volume covers all the Targaryen kings from Aegon I (the Conquerer) to the regency of Aegon III (the Dragonbane), along with their wives, wars, siblings, children, friends, rivals, laws, travels, and sundry other matters. For those not up on your Westerosi history, that's Aegon I, Aenys, Maegor the Cruel, Jaehaerys I (the Conciliator), Viserys I, Aegon II (and Rhaenyra), and Aegon III (the regency). Oh, and there are dragons too.
Lots of dragons.
Of course, the story doesn't end with the regents of Aegon III. There is a lot more history to come, and Archmaester Gyldayn will get to all that too, in FIRE & BLOOD, Volume Two.
FIRE AND BLOOD is available to preorder at retailers worldwide and will be released in most countries November 20, 2018.
