A newly found out knack for writing, a couple of dreams about his drug and alcohol use, and a girl he knew in high school all became the necessary factor to lead author John Williams Smith III into releasing his first published novel. A love story with a twist as he describes it, "Broken Toys" follows the life of two high school sweethearts as they try to overcome the breakup caused by alcohol and drug abuse and continue their romance so pure.

Debbie and Max were sweethearts since they were high school freshmen. After two years of fighting with the facility over their relationship, it is torn apart by betrayal of so-called friends bringing drugs and alcohol into use. Now Max's life becomes nothing but odd jobs, booze and drug use, paving the way for his rehabilitation.

After Max has been taken away, Debbie has been on her heels, trying to find out where Max is. After a long and seemingly endless search, she was led by an Indian man to the place where she finally found Max. Yet will fate be able to grant Debbie her heart's desire to be reunited with Max and continue their romance the second time around?

Having walked the same route that Max took, Smith is a credible speaker with regard to the many ill effects of drug and alcohol abuse in a person's body. A clean person now, Smith aims to spread a clear message through his writing, reaching out to teens and high school students to avoid drugs as early as now - so they cannot compromise their present and future.

About the Author
John Williams Smith III is a recovering alcoholic and drug addict who has been dry for over thirty years. Being in his sixties, Smith has already seen a lot of life. He started working right after high school, going into the service for two years, and then became a truck mechanic for somewhat around twenty years. Drugs, alcohol and working took up most of Smith's time, until he was forced to retire because of a bipolar condition diagnosis. Once he was cleaned up, he found out he had the urge to write and so he started. When he got close to fifty, he started to take care of his elderly mother.
