The River Street Theatre (RST), a project of The Park Theatre, will present the acclaimed spy novelist John le Carré in a rare broadcast appearance that will be seen around the globe.

The RST will present this event on Columbus Day weekend, Sunday, October 8 with 2 showings, 1:30 pm and 7:00 pm. The event was broadcast live from London's Royal Festival Hall on September 7, 2017.

The special cinema presentation is a celebration of one of the world's greatest writers as he shares the secrets behind the creation of his most beloved character. Due to popular demand, tickets are available starting today. Extra shows will be added if necessary.

From his extraordinary Cold War novels - such as The Spy Who Came in from the Cold and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy - to his powerful descriptions of the arms trade in The Night Manager, and the War on Terror in A Most Wanted Man, the writing of John le Carré has come to define the last half century. In this one-off event, the author discusses the full breadth of his career and reflects on the continuing story of his most famous creation, the tubby, bespectacled spy, George Smiley.

Coinciding with the publication date of his new novel, A Legacy of Spies, the event will include readings from the book by the author. The novel sees the return of some of le Carré's most iconic Cold War characters, including George Smiley and his trusted lieutenant, Peter Guillam, as their past comes back to claim them in the present. With a rare question and answer session, this will be an unmissable opportunity to experience one of the foremost chroniclers of our age, direct and in his own words.

In support of Doctors Without Borders, the leading emergency medical humanitarian aid organization, John le Carré is donating his speaker's fee, and a portion each ticket purchase is donated to the organization as well.

The Toadstool Bookshops of Keene, Milford, and Peterborough are a sponsor of the event. They will be donating copies of le Carré's latest novel, A Legacy of Spies, to be raffled off at each showing.

Tickets for John le Carré: An Evening with George Smiley are $10 each. More program and schedule information, as well as ticket purchases, can be found at riverst.org or by calling the RST Box Office (603) 532-8888. The after hours box office can be reached by calling OvationTix at (866) 811-4111.

The RST boasts only 28 seats, but it has new, extremely comfortable & upholstered wide seating, HD digital projection plus the best concessions around. Every week the RST presents new independent films, inspiring and educational documentaries, fresh foreign films, ParkKIDS films for children and classic films from Hitchcock to the Coen Brothers. Stage2Screen event cinema includes HD screenings of the Royal Shakespeare Company, Kenneth Branagh Theatre Live, Stratford Festival, StageRussia and The Royal Opera & Royal Ballet. Finally, for live programming, the RST presents plays, music, stand-up comedy, magicians, and readings. It makes the claim, "New England's Smallest Theatre... and proud of it." The RST promises programming that is always entertaining, innovative and fresh. Located at the heart of New Hampshire's Mount Monadnock, the RST is a 90-minute drive from downtown Boston.

The Park Theatre first opened in Jaffrey in 1922 and was the center of community life as a movie and vaudeville house for 54 years until it closed in 1976. Purchased by The Park Theatre, Inc. in 2006, it will be rebuilt as a state-of-the-art film and performing arts center, featuring two auditoriums seating 485, presenting movies, live theatre (including children's productions), concerts, and lectures as well as offering a place for business and community gatherings for the Monadnock Region and its 100,000 residents, school districts and dynamic artistic community. The new theatre is scheduled to be opened in 2018. Visit www.theparktheatre.org for more information.
