Howard Palmer was born October 11, 1907 in the small coastal town of Waldport, Ore. His life was one marked by change and challenges, mirroring that of a changing United States. Palmer was a hero to those who knew him, but passed away in 1988 unknown by the masses. Palmer's granddaughter, BC McGregor, set out to change that with the release in 2009 of the book, "Life Stories of a Hero: Selections from the Poetry of Howard Palmer, Native Oregonian, 1907-1988" (published by iUniverse). The book will enjoy a renewed marketing push when it is featured at the 2013 Frankfurt Book Fair.

"He possessed a magical gift that left us with a powerful legacy of hope and love," says McGregor of her late grandfather who was a prolific writer of poetry.

The Frankfurt Book Fair is the world's largest trade fair for books. The 2013 Frankfurt Book Fair will run from October 9 - 13 and will be honoring the country of Brazil. "Life Stories of a Hero" will be featured at a gallery at the event.

When McGregor decided to compile a collection of her grandfather's work for publication, she knew exactly how to market the work: "fun reading filled with simple life lessons, all mixed up with gentle words of wisdom and kindness."

Palmer's unique voice is evident from page one. Thoughtful, humorous and heartfelt, his poetry brings to mind a way of life that is both simpler and more introspective.

"Life Stories of a Hero" covers a wide range of themes, from the happy to the sad. McGregor notes that her grandfather had a frequent saying: "Every thing happens for the best; no matter how bad it seems, everything happens for the best." It is a sentiment that can be felt throughout the collection and is one that is close to McGregor's own heart.

"He lived a hard life," writes McGregor, "but he came to be a hero to his family, friends, all children and of course, me."
