I DO! I DO! Opens April 5th At O'Connell & Company
O'Connell & Company, the professional theatre company in residence at The Park School of Buffalo, presents the Broadway musical hit, I DO! I DO!, April 5 through May 6, 2018. I DO! I DO! is directed and choreographed by Bobby Cooke and musically directed by Charles Basil. The story of a marriage is at the center of I DO! I DO! and this production stars real-life husband and wife, Mary Coppola Gjurich and Gregory Gjurich. The creative team includes: Marcy Mickelson (Production Manager/Stage Manager), David Guagliano (Lighting Design), Paul Bostaph (Set Designer), Pamela Snyder (Properties), Collin Ranney(Costumes), Emily Pici (Website Designer), Gayle Petri (Season Logos Designer), Allegra Printing Cheektowaga (Season Poster Design) and Mary Kate O'Connell (Artistic/Executive Director).
I DO! I DO! is an intimate and nostalgic work by Harvey Schmidt and Tom Jones (The Fantasticks). Written as a star vehicle for theatre legends, Mary Martin and Robert Preston, the original Broadway production received seven Tony Award nominations.
The show begins with Michael and Agnes on their wedding day. Their vows behind them, they look forward to spending the rest of their lives together. We watch as they go through their wedding night jitters, raise a family and negotiate midlife crises. Michael eventually admits to his infidelity, and, although Agnes is angered by his actions, she forgives him and the couple reconciles. They rediscover how much they really need each other. Then, after 50 years of marriage, the couple leaves their house to the next pair of newlyweds.
This touching journey of two soul mates navigating the perils of life is set to a tuneful, charming score. I DO! I DO! is onstage at O'Connell & Company in residence at The Park School, 4625 Harlem Road, Snyder, NY 14226, April 5 through May 6, 2018.
