Interview: POET SHANTELLE MASSEY

Talented and beautiful Shantelle Massey keeps herself sane and busy with poetry and music.
MCL: Where were you born and raised?
SM:Born and raised in Buffalo, NY
MCL: When did you get involved with the Buffalo art and culture scene?
SM:I got actively involved in the Buffalo Arts & Culture scene approximately two years ago.
MCL: When did Poetry come into your life?
SM:Poetry has been a part of my life since grammar school.
MCL: Describe your Poetry?
SM: My poetry is a release of the emotion I'm feeling in that moment.
MCL: What is your Writing procedure?
SM:Usually the first line will come to me like the proverbial light bulb going off. I will immediately record/capture that thought and expand upon it until I have a finished piece.
MCL: What interest you that keeps you Writing?
SM:I keep writing because its therapeutic. I honestly believe my writing keeps me sane.
MCL: What is The Dopeness Project?
SM:The Dopeness Project is an artist development company specializing in the administrative processes involved in prepping an artist for management and/or the industry.
MCL: What do you want people to know about you through your art and words?
SM:I want people to know that their feelings & emotions are normal whether good, bad or indifferent. I often times say what others are thinking but are too afraid to voice themselves.
MCL: Time to promote yourself ... What's coming up for you for the remainder of 2017?
SM:The Dopeness Project is hosting a "sophisticated cypher" with emcee's, spoken word, vocalists and musicians called Twenty-Two Two's on 8/4/17 @ the NEW Ashker's on Main Street.
My partner is releasing his album with a unique listening experience & art exhibit called "The Art of Hip Hop" which I will be hosting on 8/25/17 @ The Main Street Art Gallery there will be more events added as the year progresses.
