Brooklyn Music School Presents An Evening Of Opera And Cabaret

By:

Brooklyn Music School (BMS) presents an evening of opera and cabaret to support the Brooklyn Opera Works program on Thursday, March 22, at 7pm in the Elliot Room at the First Presbyterian Church, 124 Henry Street, Brooklyn, NY. Tickets are $75 and can be purchased at https://bow-fundraiser-2018.eventbrite.com.

Enjoy wine, conversation, and music in an intimate cocktail setting, in an atmosphere of lively ideas, new friendships, and up-close artistry. The evening will include a sampling of celebrated operatic arias, cabaret and dance selections to showcase the talent represented by the Brooklyn Opera Works and BOW's Summer Vocal Arts program.

Featuring Wagnerian tenor Adam Herskowitz (Metropolitan Opera), the evening will be hosted by BOW's Artistic Director Lina Tetriani. She will be joined by a special guest and advisory board member, Anthony Laciura, and the fantastic Brooklyn Opera Works team.

The evening will also showcase selected costumes and art work featured in past and 2018 productions.

Anthony Laciura has appeared on the stage of the Metropolitan Opera over 800 times as a tenor, and more recently has won praise for his role as Eddie Kessler in Martin Scorsese's Boardwalk Empire.

The Brooklyn Opera Works/SVA Program, now in its sixth year, provides young and emerging vocal artists with rigorous conservatory-level training in operatic singing, acting, vocal technique, diction, dance and stage presence. Past BOW/SVA productions include Henry Purcell's Dido & Aeneas, rarely produced Baroque gem, C.W. Gluck's Echo et Narcisse and SVA Jr productions of "Love in any Language" and "Cupid's Arrow". In 2018 they plan to present John Blow's baroque masterpiece "Venus and Adonis", annual "A Brooklyn Cabaret" and will feature one-act contemporary opera "All Wounds Bleed" by artistic advisory board member Christopher Cerrone.

Christopher Cerrone is a winner of a 2015 Rome Prize and a finalist for the 2014 Pulitzer Prize.

Contributions will help support the production of the chamber operas, as well as provide scholarships for deserving students who would not otherwise be able to participate in the program.

Opera has a long tradition at Brooklyn Music School, dating back to the Little Theater Opera Company in the 1920s. BMS is working to expand the opportunities for young and emerging opera singers, with future Fall and Spring programs planned through our Brooklyn Opera Works (BOW) program that will include the production of original new works and opera performance in non-traditional spaces and under-served audiences in situ.
