Brooklyn Museum Announces Public Program Schedule For February

The Brooklyn Museum will present a variety of programs for adults, teens, and kids in February. Public programs include talks, performances, and hands-on workshops for children and adults that amplify the Museum's exhibitions and Permanent Collection, serve its diverse public, and support learning through the visual arts.

Highlights include a special life drawing class with a live DJ inspired by Iggy Pop Life Class by Jeremy Deller; an in-gallery talk on Beverly Buchanan with artist Brie Ruais; and a musical performance by the Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra.

Drink and Draw: Iggy Pop Life Class by Jeremy Deller

Rubin Pavilion, 1st Floor

Tickets are $25 and include Museum admission, supplies, and a complimentary drink.

Sketch from live models in a DJ'd life drawing class inspired by the exhibition Iggy Pop Life Class by Jeremy Deller. The evening is led by the Liner Notes duo artist Nathan Sensel and DJ Sintalentos. Come early for a free pop-up talk in the exhibition at 6:30 pm. For tickets, visit www.brooklynmuseum.org.

Salsa Party

Martha A. and Robert S. Rubin Pavilion, 1st Floor

Free as part of Thursday Nights.

Join a salsa class led by professional dancers, followed by live music and dance performances by some of Brooklyn's best Latin dance teams. Hosted by Brooklyn's Balmir Latin Dance Studio.

Teen Night

Beaux-Arts Court, 3rd Floor

Free with Museum admission.

Planned by teens for teens, this free evening is filled with art, friends, food, and fun. February's Teen Night explores the exhibitions Beverly Buchanan--- Ruins and Rituals and Marilyn Minter: Pretty/Dirty.

Artist's Eye: Brie Ruais on Beverly Buchanan

Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art, 4th Floor

Free with Museum admission.


This series of intimate, in-gallery talks by contemporary artists illuminates special exhibitions with fresh and alternative perspectives. Brie Ruais responds to Buchanan's work in Beverly Buchanan--- Ruins and Rituals.

Art In Sight

Meet in Rubin Lobby, 1st Floor

Free as part of Thursday Nights.

Spend an hour experiencing a single work of art and discover new ways to see the art you love. All are welcome at this experiment in observation and perception.

Music: Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra

Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Auditorium, 3rd Floor

$10 for Museum Members; $20 for non-Members.

The Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra performs several movements from William Walton's Façade, an Entertainment, an Italian take on Respighi's Brazilian Impressionso, and George Gershwin's An American in Paris. For tickets and more information, visit www.brooklynsymphonyorchestra.org.

Poetic Justice: Beyond Words in tribute to Master Poet Maya Angelou

This will be a ticketed program.

National Coalition of 100 Black Women honors the legacy of Maya Angelou with an evening of social-justice-infused poetry and spoken word performances. Workshop: Art of Yoga
