Absurdist Theatre Company Visceral Abstractions Will Open Work-In-Progress Season Tonight In Brooklyn

Visceral Abstractions, the Brooklyn-based absurdist circus arts and theater collective is to perform Notes From The Void - a work-in-progress show for three performances beginning tonight, Thursday 21 Oct at Liminal Space.

Since the theater company's first production in the summer 2017, they have presented productions across New York City, playing to capacity houses at the House of Yes, the Slipper Room, the Muse, and Coney Island USA. They have also collaborated with Little Cinema and Blunderland.

Artistic director, co-creator and performer Juanita Cardenas has been making magic on stages across New York City for the last decade. In addition to a plethora of acclaimed solo performances, her creations in all of their forms - whether they be objects, puppetry or costume design - continue to delight audiences all over town.

Tamara Ochoa (co-creator, sound designer, and performer) is an aerialist and stilt performer, whose work shares imaginations and musings on struggle, wonder and the absurd. She has performs at The House of Yes, The Muse, the Slipper Room, Coney Island USA, and Theatre for the New City, in addition to private events and festivals in and outside of NYC.

Making his debut with Visceral Abstractions is the renowned acrobat, chair balancing artist, trapeze act and circus clown Ryan Shinji Murray, who has toured the world in Cirque du Soleil's Kurios, during which - among other feats - he bounced nightly on the world's largest trampoline. In addition to his work with Cirque Do Soleil he also performed as a featured act in Cirque Eloize, a theatrical circus company based in Montreal, where he became known for his 20-foot tall chair stacking solo.

Downtown comedy performer Matt Roper made his NY theatre debut as Chico in the revival of the Marx Brothers Broadway show I'll Say She Is. He has toured to comedy and cabaret festivals worldwide, but is undoubtedly best known to New Yorkers for his late night performances under the guise of his outrageous alter-ego Wilfredo at nightclubs and theaters across New York City.

The event is programmed in part with support from the City Artist Corps Grant program. The opening performance will be presented free of charge, while the two consecutive following shows will be performed on an entry-by-donation basis.

City Artist Corps Grants support NYC-based working artists who have been disproportionately impacted by COVID-19. The program has distributed one-time grants to over 3,000 artists, to help sustain their practice and engage the public across New York City's five boroughs.
