World-renowned didjeridu virtuoso and composer William Barton will take to the Concert Hall stage at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) along with ABC Classic FM's Damien Beaumont in the second concert of the Southern Cross Soloists' 2016 season Visions of Earth, on Sunday 19 June 2016.

Southern Cross Soloists' Artistic Director Tania Frazer said audiences can expect a stimulating and moving experience as the Visions of Earth program includes a showcase of Indigenous culture and its spiritual connection to land and nature through the music of Australian composers evoking stunning imagery and narration by Damien Beaumont.

"This year, I have been investigating the inspiration behind the many wonderful works of classical music. This concert is about the natural world and its influence on composers through time. Australian composers have especially been influenced by our own Indigenous culture, with its mystical stories of spiritual connections to the earth and nature and our uniquely Australian landscape," said Ms Frazer.

"Showcasing stories of our unique island, Visions of Earth will paint vivid scenes of the natural landscape, transporting audience members through time and space purely from the power of musical storytelling.

"Southern Cross Soloists have performed many times with William Barton over the years, but this is first time he will join us in our QPAC concert series following his popular guest artist appearance with us at the Bangalow Musical Festival.

in 2015.

"It is always an extraordinary experience to work so closely with a virtuoso of any instrument, but to work with a didjeridu virtuoso is in another league. William's range of colours and sounds are always astonishing and in Visions of Earth we are delighted to perform a new work which he has written especially for the Soloists," said Ms Frazer.

"We are also thrilled to have talented ABC Classic FM Saturday morning presenter and performer Damien Beaumont join us as guest narrator in his debut appearance with the soloists."

A company in residence at QPAC, Southern Cross Soloists have earned a well-deserved reputation for artistic excellence. With musicians from across Australia, the Soloists are a truly national ensemble of outstanding artists who come together to create something special and very much 'in the moment' each time they perform. The informal, 'up-close-and-personal' performance style perfected by the Soloists creates an intimate, inviting and deeply engaging experience.

A flagship small arts company, both nationally and internationally, Southern Cross Soloists have cultivated an Australian musical identity through their innovative performances and collaborations with virtuoso musicians from around the world.
