Written in 1970 but unpublished for almost 40 years, GREEN EYES is a “lost” Tennessee Williams play centered on a steamy Southern couple on their honeymoon in New Orleans. As he prepares to head back to Vietnam, new husband Claude drinks away the haunting sounds of helicopters and gunfights as tensions escalate between him and his sultry minx of a wife. The clash is all but inevitable as we learn that Claude had passed out drunk, leaving his wife to wander on her own and encounter a green-eyed stranger ready to meet her demands. GREEN EYES restages the horrors of war as an unhinged lovers’ quarrel, exploring the disturbing subjectivities that exist in the grey areas where sadomasochistic desire and domestic violence overlap.
