The MIT Gilbert and Sullivan Players are thrilled to announce tickets are now available for their production of Cole Porter's classic Kiss Me, Kate, starting December 1!

Egotistical leading man, director, and producer Fred Graham is reunited with his ex-wife, film star and prima donna Lilli Vanessi, when the two play opposite one another in a new production of Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew. The battle of the sexes continues onstage and off, as it becomes clear that, as much as this couple profess to hate each other, they are also still in love. Alongside their bickering liaison, the show's supporting actress, bombshell Lois Lane, supports her gambling boyfriend, Bill, as he attempts to evade the clutches of local gangsters.

Throw in a case of mistaken identity, punning mobsters, Shakespearean hi-jinx, and such classics as "Too Darn Hot", "Another Openin', Another Show", and "Why Can't You Behave" into the mix, and you get Kiss Me, Kate - a dazzling Broadway classic that earned the very first Tony award for Best Musical in 1949.

Of course, a few things have changed between 1949 and now. The MIT Gilbert and Sullivan Players Kiss Me, Kate director Anna Richardson is excited to take on Cole Porter's fantastic work while reigning in the more overtly problematic moments of the script so that the audience and cast here and now can enjoy the show without being taken out of the moment.

Richardson is excited to present Kiss Me, Kate in all its cheeky, post-war escapism and Shakespeare hi-jinx in full technicolor. With musical direction by Blake Pilger, Composition student at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee, this production is truly a theater-centered show for theater folks of all stripes.
