Photo Coverage: MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET Opens at The Berkshire Theatre Group
The piano at at Berkshire Theatre Group's Unicorn Theatre will never be the same after Jerry Lee Lewis (Gabriel Aronson) of Million Dollar Quartet finished playing and gyrating on it last night at the opening of this Tony Award-Winning Musical, and Broadwayworld was there. I wasn't there on December 4th 1956 at Sam Phillips' Sun Records in Memphis when Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins came together for one monumental night of music making, but this show puts you right in the audio mix. It's based on a true story, and here's another true story. It's director James Barry made his acting debut at the Berkshire Theatre Group 18 years ago. James also performed the role of Carl Perkins in the first National Tour of Million Dollar Quartet for two years and has reprised the role many times, and provided musical direction, and for this run at BTG he is directing. That day in 1956 was the only time those four soon to become Rock & Roll icons were in the same recording studio.The Unicorn Theatre becomes Sun Records with all the authentic sights and sounds as Elvis (Brycen Katolinsky), Johnny Cash (Bill Sheets), Carl Perkins (Colin Summers), Jerry Lee (Gabriel Aronson), and Sam Phillips (Ben Nordstrom) authentically create the music. Also appearing in the show were Nathan Yates Douglass (Brother Jay), David W. Lincoln (Fluke Holland), and Christy Coco (Dyanne)
