New Repertory Theatre Presents 1776 New Repertory Theatre presents 1776, the Tony Award-winning musical by Sherman Edwards and Peter Stone. Co-directed by Broadway veteran Austin Pendleton and Kelli Edwards, the production runs November 30 through December 23, 2018 in the MainStage Theater at the Mosesian Center for the Arts, 321 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA. Tickets are $25-$72 and may be purchased by calling the New Rep Box Office at 617-923-8487 or visiting newrep.org. Student, senior, and group discounts are available. Subscription packages that include 1776 are also available.

"The most unique thing about [this production of 1776] is the non-traditional casting," says co-director and award-winning choreographer Kelli Edwards. "We have women playing men, men playing women, and many people of color in key roles. It was of great importance that this cast be fully representative of today's America."

"I am thrilled to again direct at New Rep," continues co-director Austin Pendleton, who most recently directed Fiddler on the Roof. "At New Rep, I've been impressed by the quality of the work - buoyant and wonderfully welcoming, demanding, and totally creative." "The Tony Award-winning musical 1776 was the perfect selection to keep with New Rep's holiday tradition of sharing a powerful, terrific musical that many generations can enjoy together," shares New Rep Artistic Director Jim Petosa. "1776 takes a pivotal moment in our nation's history and presents it in an imaginative and family-friendly manner."

"We're proud to enter the holiday season with the fan-favorite 1776," says New Rep Managing Director, Harriet Sheets. "New Rep audiences will be glad to welcome back favorites Ben Evett, Aimee Doherty, and Bobbie Steinbach, as well as discovering many new artists on the New Rep stage."

In this Tony Award-winning musical, Massachusetts delegate John Adams must convince a divided Continental Congress to forge a new and independent nation. With help from his colleagues Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson, Adams just might make history! New Rep's production will embrace this acclaimed work by telling the American "origin story" with a cast that represents the spectrum of 21st century America.
