What if Charlie Brown grew up to be Ebenezer Scrooge? This holiday season, ImprovBoston will give audiences a chance to ask what if as they see beloved Charles M. Schulz characters in a modern retelling of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. What The Dickens?!, a musical comedy, runs December 15-23 at ImprovBoston, 40 Prospect Street. Tickets cost $17-$25. Tickets are available online at www.improvboston.com or by phone at 617.576.1253.

This hilarious parody of the Peanuts characters and the Dickens literary classic sprung to life after its creators, Adam Brooks and TC Cheever, used the framework of A Christmas Carol for a longform improv show. In 2005, Brooks and Cheever collaborated to turn it into a musical. During the creation process, Cheever began to think about how watching A Charlie Brown Christmas each year is a modern holiday tradition and then thought about how to create something that was more than another adaptation of A Christmas Carol.

In this musical, Charlie Brown is Scrooge. Lucy appears as the Jacob Marley character. The Red Haired Girl is the woman Scrooge loved and lost and Sally and Linus appear as Scrooge's nephew and his wife, who haven't given up on the curmudgeon. Marcie and Peppermint Patty take on the role of Bob Cratchit and his wife. Their adopted son is Tiny Tim.

This music is written by Brooks and Cheever. Cheever wrote the book and directs the show. His cast includes: Mathieu Gagné, Kara Gelormini. Katie Preisig. Emily Laverdiere. David Marino, Deana Criess Tolliver. Bobby Smithney. Bill Barnert, Claire Smithney, Dan Chapman, and Sophia Shrand.

"I like A Charlie Brown Christmas because it is simultaneously simple and audacious," said Cheever. "At our show, audiences can expect a loving parody of both Charlie Brown and Dickens' immortal classic, with a lot of heart and great songs."
