The George Gritzbach Band
Saturday, February 20, 2010 - 8:00 pm
Tickets: $20
A three-piece band--drums, bass, and guitar; the music is blues/R&B based, we play a good deal of funk and New Orleans. What distinguishes our live performances are a healthy dose of slide guitar and the addition of racked harmonica, as well as high quality original compositions.
We play up-tempo material with the addition of a ballad or two per set. We consider ourselves a high-energy R&B dance band. That being said, we have the flexibility to go unplugged and play an acoustic set for a concert or coffee house crowd. At this time, we go by the George Gritzbach Band. George has shared the stage with: B. B. King, Buddy Guy, John Lee Hooker, Bonnie Raitt, Professor Longhair, Odetta, Taj Mahal, Libba Cotton, John Jackson, Little Feat, John Hammond, Bukka White, Mississippi John Hurt, Saffire, Robert Cray, Luther Guitar Johnson, Dr. John, Clarence 'Gatemouth' Brown, James Cotton, koko Taylor, and Toni Lynn Washington.

Saturday, February 6th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm

Auditions will consist of reading from the script and learning a small piece of combat. Please wear comfortable clothing that will allow you to be very active. Director Lisa Canto will be casting many roles, from pirates to sailors, including Long John Silver and Jim Hawkins. Men, women and young adults 14+ are invited to audition. Audition forms may be printed out from our website and brought to the audition. If under 18, you must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Please submit all questions to Patrick Pope at patrick@cotuitcenterforthearts.org. Rehearsals will begin the week of February 15th. Production dates are April 1st through April 18th for twelve (12) performances, with Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evening performances at 8pm and Sunday matinees at 2pm.

Based on the masterful adventure novel, Treasure Island is a stunning yarn of piracy on the tropical seas. It begins at an inn on the Devon coast of England in 1775 and quickly becomes an unforgettable tale of treachery and mayhem featuring a host of legendary swashbucklers including the dangerous Billy Bones (played unforgettably in the movies by Lionel Barrymore), the sinister two-timing Israel Hands, the brassy woman pirate Anne Bonney, and the hideous form of evil incarnate, Blind Pew. At the center of it all are Jim Hawkins, a 14-year-old boy who longs for adventure, and the infamous Long John Silver, who is a complex study of good and evil, perhaps the most famous hero-villain of all time. Silver is an unscrupulous buccaneer-rogue whose greedy quest for gold, coupled with his affection for Jim, cannot help but win the heart of every soul who has ever longed for romance, treasure and adventure.

Audition forms may be printed out from our website and brought to the audition.

March 6 - James Wolf: Abstract Expressionist Painting
In the Abstract Expressionist Painting class we will learn to mix colors. Lots of colors: bright colors, dark colors, ones that make us feel good when we look at them, ones that look good together. Then we will use lots of different brushes to make the marks, planes and textures that are needed to paint a beautiful, interesting abstract.

March 13 - Joe Diggs: Drawing then Painting a Painting
This session will start with developing the overall composition then focus on drawing technique, content and details. Next, color mixing then all of the ways to apply paint to make a painting as beautiful as you can make it.

March 20 - John Cira: Found Object Assemblage
Participating students will collaborate on a free-standing sculpture constructed from found objects. Each student should assemble a collection of their own objects to contribute to the work and for possible use in constructing a small wall hung piece of their own composition. And we will initially search the art center area for objects for possible use in the work(s).

March 27 - Jackie Reeves: Drawing Faces and Expressions
In this portrait class we will learn about the portportions of the human head and practice drawing faces with pencil, charcoal and erasers. Using mirrors we will study facial expressions and draw emotions with line and shading techniques.
