Circuit Theatre Presents a World Premiere by John Kuntz, 8/2-16

By:

The Circuit Theatre Company, a critically acclaimed, IRNE-nominated company run and operated by young theatre artists from across the country, is celebrating its fifth season with its first ever commission of a new play.

This play was commissioned from award-winning local playwright and actor, John Kuntz. Kuntz is known for his strange, darkly comic plays with detailed pop cultural mythologies (The Hotel Nepenthe, The Salt Girl). Working with IRNE-nominated director (and Circuit's founding artistic director) Skylar Fox and a cast of eight actors, Kuntz has created a play that explores violence and innocence in American history, entitled "The Annotated History of the American Muskrat."

Circuit describes the play as follows: "Once upon a time, the muskrat created the world. The muskrat created America, and it was good. America was a great experiment, but who exactly is conducting that experiment? And who are the subjects? In this wild, dark, Wikepedic collage, John Kuntz and the Circuit Theatre Company examine American identity and mythology in a journey of epic proportions, with a fair share of dancing and Little Debbie Snacks."

Now more than ever, Circuit hopes to celebrate the voice of young artists in Boston, while pushing the boundaries of what theatre can do and be.

The Annotated History of the American Muskrat will play at the Virginia Wimberly Theatre at the Boston Center for the Arts from August 2-16, where it runs Wednesday-Sunday. More info available at circuittheatre.com.
