Berkshire Theatre Group Receives $45,000 Grant

Berkshire Theatre Group is proud to announce it is the recipient of a prestigious $45,000 grant from The Shubert Foundation. Providing grant support to theatres throughout the country, The Shubert Foundation ensures quality and longevity of performing arts.

Artistic Director/CEO, Kate Maguire says, "We are deeply thankful to The Shubert Foundation for its support today. We are equally grateful for the annual support The Shubert Foundation has shown us since the mid 1990s. We know that Berkshire Theatre Group is not the only institution grateful to The Shubert Foundation. As caretakers of American Performing Arts, The Shubert Foundation's support is nationwide, and thriving. The special aspect of support from The Shubert Foundation is that their grants go directly to helping underwrite the work we produce on our stages. Our upcoming 2017 Summer Season, featuring Children of a Lesser God, The Music Man and Arsenic and Old Lace, will come to fruition due to our generous supporters, and specifically to The Shubert Foundation."

The Shubert Foundation, Inc. was established in 1945 by Lee and J.J. Shubert in memory of their brother Sam, and is the sole shareholder of The Shubert Organization, Inc., which currently owns/operates 21 theatres: 17 on Broadway, one Off-Broadway theatre (The Little Shubert), and one each in Boston and Philadelphia. The Colonial Theatre, founded in 1903, and Berkshire Theatre Festival, founded in 1928, are two of the oldest cultural organizations in the Berkshires. In 2010, under the leadership of Artistic Director and CEO Kate Maguire, the two organizations merged to form Berkshire Theatre Group (BTG). Berkshire Theatre Group's mission is to support wide ranging artistic exploration and acclaimed performances in theatre, dance, music and entertainment. Every year, BTG produces and presents performances to over 68,000 attendees and, through our Educational Program, serves over 13,000 Berkshire County schoolchildren annually. BTG's celebrated stages reflect the history of the American theatre; they represent a priceless cultural resource for the community.
