BILLY BUDD IN THE BREADBOX Comes to BTG's Garage For School Vacation Week Image

Berkshire Theatre Group (BTG) welcomes Billy Budd in the Breadbox,as part of BTG PLAYS!, BTG's year-round education program, at The Garage (located in the Colonial Theatre lobby) during School Vacation week, February 18 through February 24. This event is part of the 10x10 Upstreet Arts Festival.

History comes to life in the exciting new play, Billy Budd in the Breadbox, about Herman Melville, author of Moby Dick. Billy Budd in the Breadbox is adapted from Jana Laiz'sBilly Budd in the Bread Box, The Story of Herman Melville and Eleanor by Travis G. Daly. Told through the eyes of his granddaughter, Eleanor, the show follows the special relationship between grandfather and granddaughter. Eleanor discovers that her grandfather has a secret and is determined to figure out what it is. Along her journey, you'll go on an interactive and educational history lesson from Herman Melville himself. Hear his stories and learn about what inspired such writings at Moby Dick, Typee, Billy Budd and more. Based on a true discovery that brought the writings of Herman Melville back to life. The play features stories about local Berkshire history including Arrowhead, Mt. Greylock, and Monument Mountain.

Local author, Jana Laiz, says, "As Writer-In-Residence at Herman Melville's home, Arrowhead, I was inspired to tell his story and found my voice through his 9-year-old granddaughter, Eleanor. When Travis Daly approached me about adapting one of my books into a play for BTG's Educational Touring Show, I was thrilled."

Tickets to Billy Budd in the Breadbox are $5 for children, and $10 for adults. Ticket Offices are open Monday-Saturday 10am-5pm, Sunday 10am-2pm or on any performance day from 10am until curtain.
