ACTS Presents Area Premiere Of MAMMA MIA Image

The Alexander Children's Theatre School (ACTS) is proud to be among the first theatre companies in the region to produce MAMMA MIA!, the long-running Broadway musical featuring the hit songs of ABBA. Performances are January 11 at 7:30 pm, January 12 at 2:00 pm and 7:30 pm, and January 13 at 2:00 pm at Cary Hall (1605 Massachusetts Avenue, Lexington, MA).

MAMMA MIA! features a book by Catherine Johnson, songs by Benny Andersson and BJÖRN ULVAEUS and some songs with Stig Anderson, and additional material and music arrangements by Martin Koch. It was originally conceived and produced by Judy Craymer. IN MAMMA MIA!, ABBA's hits tell the hilarious story of a young woman's search for her birth father. This sunny and funny tale unfolds on a Greek island paradise. On the eve of her wedding, a daughter's quest to discover the identity of her father brings three men from her mother's past back to the island they last visited 20 years ago. The score includes "Dancing Queen," "Super Trouper," "Thank You For The Music," "The Winner Takes It All," and more! The Broadway production ran for fourteen years and nearly 6,000 performances, inspiring two films and numerous touring and international productions.

Featuring a cast ranging from ages 12-19, ACTS' production of MAMMA MIA is directed by Devon Stone, with choreography by Lenni Kmiec and music direction by Joseph Nuccio. It is produced by ACTS founder Stephanie C. Mavrides in association with James Forbes Sheehan.

MAMMA MIA! will play four performances in 2019: January 11 at 7:30 pm, January 12 at 2:00 pm and 7:30 pm, and January 13 at 2:00 pm at Cary Hall (1605 Massachusetts Ave, Lexington, MA). Tickets ($19-$25) are now on sale by visiting www.ACTS1.org or by calling 781-899-4467.

Later in the season, ACTS will present the area premiere of Disney's NEWSIES, Alan Menken, Jack Feldman, and Harvey Fierstein's smash-hit musical based on the film of the same name. Performances will be June 14-16, 2019, with auditions for ages 12-19 occurring in late January. Additionally, the International Theatre & Dance Project -- a new branch of ACTS -- will offer a once-in-a-lifetime experience from July 31-August 18, 2019: a theatre and dance seminar on the stunning island of Paros in Greece. Registration for the Greece program has been unprecedented, and only two spots remain.

Since 1999, The Alexander Children's Theatre School (ACTS) has been producing several annual musicals, in addition to offering master classes and workshops with professional artists, weekly dance classes, and other educational opportunities. By combining the work of professional adults with that of students and volunteers, we can create an excellent learning experience for all. We believe that every young person can succeed in the theater if given the proper guidance, encouragement, and direction. ACTS is a proud member of the Eastern Massachusetts Association of Community Theatres (EMACT). Find us on Facebook or visit our website (www.ACTS1.org).
