The Sun Valley Center for the Arts and Company of Fools (COF) will present two evening readings of the play MAURITIUS, by playwright Theresa Rebeck -- Friday, October 23 and Saturday, October 24, at 6:30 pm at The Center in Ketchum. The readings are part of The Center's BIG IDEA multidisciplinary project, Sleight of Hand, which runs from September 25 through November 27.

MAURITIUS is the story of two estranged half-sisters, who, after their mother's death, discover a book of rare stamps that may include the crown jewel for collectors. One sister tries to collect on the windfall, while the other resists for sentimental reasons. In this gripping tale, a seemingly simple sale becomes dangerous when three seedy, high-stakes collectors enter the sisters' world, willing to do anything to claim the rare find as their own.

John Glenn directs the COF reading of MAURITIUS. The cast features Scott Creighton, David Janeski, Yana Lantz, Joel Vilinsky and Aly Wepplo.

Programming for the Sleight of Hand BIG IDEA project considers the line between reality and illusion and how we assign value to works of art and intellectual property. Much of the discussion will center on art forgeries and question the difference between a fake, a forgery and a copy. This theme is further explored in MAURITIUS, with contrast and comparison between economic and sentimental value, as well how we justify claiming a work of art, knowledge, or discovery as our own and the often very thin lines separating such assertions.

Admission to the play reading is $10. For more information and to reserve your tickets, visit www.sunvalleycenter.org or call 208.726.9491. SPACE IS LIMITED. Sun Valley Center for the Arts is located at 191 Fifth Street East in Ketchum, Idaho, and in Hailey at 314 South Second Avenue. Ketchum hours are 9 am-5 pm Monday through Friday.
