BWW Reviews: A Pleasant Evening in the Park with SEUSSICAL JR.

By: Sep. 22, 2014

Treasure Valley Youth Theatre, Inc. brought stories from Dr. Seuss to life with SEUSSICAL JR. Utilizing the outdoor amphitheater at Kleiner Memorial Park, they engaged both young and old with their simple, but imaginative set, props, and costumes. The choreography was fun and well within the ability of the young performers.

I was really disappointed, however, in the sound operation. There were many performers that I couldn't hear or understand as they sang or spoke lines, sometimes due to a lack of microphone, but often because of a late adjustment to the sound board. Nevertheless, the performers all seemed comfortable with their lines and solos, and were as much in tune as you can possibly expect children to be.

I immediately fell in love with the tiny citizens of Whoville (lead by Bianca Ravago, Aidan Anderson, and Lucy Johnson). Although they were the smallest, and possibly the youngest of all the performers, they really gave into their roles. Additionally, Horton (Connor Talbot), Cat in the Hat (Justin Ravago), and Gertrude (Sasha Wilkinson) all had great voices and seemed to fit perfectly into their roles.
