Getting ready to see Red Light Variety Show present SCIENCE FICTION I am filled with anticipation. I have not been to a variety show, per say, and didn't know what to expect. I knew not to expect my grandmother's variety show, if ya know what I mean. I know when I think of variety shows, Carol Burnette Show comes to mind (I know, I just aged myself) and I know this will NOT be that kind of show.

I will put my disclaimer in here at this point. I do know one of the performers, and she has been stunning every time I hear her, so she may get a mention, Leta Neustaedter. I hope that the review is just as generous to the other performers as well.

The doors at the Visual Arts Center open at 8:00 pm and by 7:30 there are already people waiting to get in. This should make for a fun night.

When I walked in the you could feel the excitement build as the crowd filtered in, the fact that they sell alcolhol doesn't hurt either. You could tell some folks were regulars as they greeted each other. Having never been here before, I still felt welcome. Great start RLVS and VAC.

Then the show started at 9:00pm. I guess I should have put it in my calendar better, but it was worth the wait. I did not stop smiling during this entertaining night. Well, the only time I stopped smiling was when I had my mouth open in awe at the amazing acrobatics I was seeing.

If you are a child of the 70's, 80's or 90's and/or love all things science fiction, you will enjoy this show. There are references to many of the popular television shows and movies (and books) that we grew up on. Star Trek, XFiles, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy among many others.

The human body is amazing. The aerial acrobatics on display are wonderful. The hoop dancing, the twin ribbons twirling and spinning. How do they not get dizzy? All of the bodies on display; male and female, young-ish and old, are all perfect in their display. There is nothing but beauty and humor on the stage. And let's not forget the agile, flexible strong bodies that are showing the crowd what the body is capable of.

All I can say is I am kinda glad my husband isn't here. The bodies on stage are so attractive, after 25 years, he might be tempted.

If you want a fun adult night, filled with humor and friendly crowds (and a full service bar [remember to tip the bartenders, they'll be here all week] I would definately put this on your schedule. This show is very imaginative, innovative and worth your time.

Be sure to check out the magnificent talents of: Aayla Du Bois, Joanne Mangun, Brady Moore, James Sharp, Juniper Rose, Kelli Brown, Celest Bolin, Katie "Cinna-Bunn" Ponnozzo, and Leta Neustaedter. Sarah Gardner directed. Kudos to the other cast and crew! Great show.

Red Light Variety Show is a nod to the days of burlesque, with all that entails.
