If You're So Upset About Reviews, Don't Read Them. Or Complain.  Dec 2 2011, 11:03:25 PM
Thanks for the personal insult Blaxx and calling me dumb.

I was only pointing out how much educational experience many critics (in general and not only theatre critics) have. For the movies, "this film is not yet rated" pointed out how little experience those people have.

Actually many critics have nothing more than a bachelors in English. So that means anyone with a bachelors in English is as qualified.

Well if you go by Broadwayworld's scoring system of reviews Bonnie and Clyde has a 5.83/10 which is higher than Wicked and Adams Family and just below Memphis, Priscilla, and Mamma Mia...

I also found the write up on Playbill.com rather funny calling "Ben Brantley in the New York Times, gave what has to be considered a sort of a rave when he called the show "a modest, mildly tuneful musical."

and

"If I were Wildhorn, I'd be buying a round of drinks at Sardi's."

other shows have survived a NYT trashing...so yes I am not counting it out until the pink slip goes on the wall.
BONNIE & CLYDE Reviews  Dec 1 2011, 11:23:54 PM
I know the NYT was a complete pan but there are a bunch of mixed/positive reviews coming out there as well...

I agree CATS I found Stark better as well...
BONNIE & CLYDE Reviews  Dec 1 2011, 10:09:04 PM
The reviews seem to be getting a bit better compared with the first reviews out...still the casting is getting decent reviews.
BONNIE & CLYDE Reviews  Dec 1 2011, 10:02:34 PM
Yes, I remember the ones for Wonderland taken out of context...these can actually be used in context (mostly about the cast) but there are a few things that have praised about the production.
BONNIE & CLYDE Reviews  Dec 1 2011, 09:55:08 PM
unlike wonderland they do have some pull quotes for advertising from these reviews...
BONNIE & CLYDE Reviews  Dec 1 2011, 09:15:26 PM
I said mixed to positive? because there are a few more positive things in that review than negative...but it is still a mixed review leaning towards positive (though linda w. seems shocked that she is leaning that way in the review)

Wonderland reviews?  Apr 18 2011, 05:57:29 PM
For those comparing this show to dracula, dracula's average attendance was in the 50% (and never got higher than 70%) while wonderland is >80% every week. Yes, average capacity does not mean all that much but as another poster stated does anyone know a show that closed with capacity's in the 80s?

With the reviews that Wonderland recieved it will be an uphill battle, but not one the producers are going to give up on. The cd comes out on May 3rd so expect the show to continue until at lea

Havana, Bonnie & Clyde, or The Count of Monte Cristo  Jan 26 2010, 05:34:17 PM
Waiting for the Moon did get decent reviews and some award nominations. The theatre that it premiered at no longer exists which may have contributed to something. Also, it was supposed to ahve another premier in NC that feel through...who knows? It was a good show that just needed some fine tuning.

According the people that be, there are currently no definitive plans for Wonderland after Houston. They are still negotiating and figuring out the next move.

Havana, Bonnie & Clyde, or The Count of Monte Cristo  Jan 26 2010, 05:00:05 PM
I agree with CATS that Bonnie and Clyde was a great show and had a well written book. But the subject material will keep it from broadway...which is sad! I am glad I flew to SD to see it when I did.

On the other hand, Wonderland will reach Broadway (IMO). I have seen the show a few times in Houston and the writers/producers have high expectations for this show. It is a fun show with a lot of energy.

frontrowcentre2 my info is from Frank himself.
re: 07-08 Recouping  Dec 12 2008, 06:01:29 PM
Thanks for the information. There is one thing that I would like to clear up. If a show makes it money back on tour then it is a hit. In this thread someone pointed to Jeckyll and Hyde being a flop on broadway, this is true except that the tour made back all of the rest of the investment and a fair bit of profit. So in fact it wasn't really a flop.
