How about a Lady Gaga musical?  Oct 8 2010, 07:38:12 PM
I reckon it's more likely she'd write an original musical.

I can totally see her collaborating with someone like Elton or Brian May and creating an odd pop/rock musical...a new rave Rocky Horror or something equally daft but probably amazing.

The only way I'd like to see a jukebox musical of her stuff would be a super-pyschadelic 'Cirque du Soliel'-esque type show with remixes and instrumentals. Basically a visual-heavy trippy art installation with dance and a huge band. Ki

Wicked - The second-Ever Original Production  Sep 6 2010, 07:26:27 PM
To be honest, I think it looks well funded but incredibly tacky and amateur for the most part. The logo/cover art? Cheap.

I like the direction they're going in, but I don't think it was executed well. It seems to be stuck inbetween being stylised and the original design. Just looks inconstant.

I love the bubble and the special effects, I just wish they'd taken it further and gone all out with the techno-punk look.

Props for at least trying to do something different tho

RENT at Hollywood Bowl (REVIEWS)  Aug 8 2010, 10:12:22 AM
I feel NPH was overly optimistic with Vanessa Hudgens. She just comes across as an amateur school lead. Her voice is weak, and it would have been forgivable if her acting made up for it...which it hasn't.

Really impressed with Nicole Scherzinger. I knew she had a good set of pipes, and she obviously has the cocky sexuality thing down, but she really does seem to have left the pop star ego at the door and embraced a different style of performing.

Aaron Tveit looks very swoon worthy there.
Anyway to watch the Tonys online?  Jun 13 2010, 08:15:27 PM
Its a bit stop/start with buffering for me, but it's better than nothing.

I don't want to pause it to load incase it just leapfrogs.

edit: the link kept on properly giving up. Shame.

This is streaming the red carpet...not sure if they're showing the actual show? Has it started yet?

Is it streaming from a different time zone or something?
Anyway to watch the Tonys online?  Jun 13 2010, 07:34:49 PM
I'm watching CBS on TVU...and it had golf and they were talking about the Tony's coming up...and then it went to something about athletes and now it's Sabrina the Teenage Witch...?
What the hell is Neil Patrick Harris doing to RENT?  Jun 5 2010, 10:52:20 AM
Well in all fairness to Nicole Scheuwhegur, she is THE Pussycat Doll. Plus she just won DWTS, so she is quite famous with the mainstream pop listeners and slightly older crowd now.

I reckon she'll be good though, she has a strong voice and can obviously play up the sexy cock-tease, leather clad Maureen.

Vanessa Hudgens is an annoying choice though. She really isn't a good enough singer and has the stage presence of a goldfish. Obviously she's to bring in the young crowd, but su

re: BARE - Coming to Bway in 2010-11  Nov 4 2009, 07:29:53 PM
I really, really hope this happens. I won't hold my breath though.

Lea Michelle could potentially be a good Ivy, 'Glee' success is a bonus.

Matt Doyle too, actually. Assuming he brushes up his acting/stage presence...

re: Sheridan Smith and the UK cast of LB do a fun video to So Much Better  Oct 1 2009, 08:57:47 AM
This is the theatre...people won't remotely notice/care that Sheridan is on the 'wrong' side of 30 from the audience. If Kristin Chenoweth can play a teenager, I'm sure Sheridan will be ok.

But anyway, yeah I do think her wig was a bit too blonde and fake, and that pink dress looks very mumsy, but she seems extremely likeable and capable in the role.

re: UnGLEEful  Sep 17 2009, 05:32:47 PM
Well, I think the problem with Glee is also the reason why its successful.

It's a show involving musical numbers. That hasn't been done in this format, it's new and uncharted territory. By the looks of it, they're working it out as they go along.

For that, you have to cut them some slack. For us, being musical fans, that element is easily passable to focus on the structural flaws, but for the people behind the show - it's quite a gamble simply because it involves musical elemen

re: My Fair Lady - remake (+ more)  Aug 17 2009, 09:36:33 PM
I don't think anyone is under the impression that the re-make will be regarded anywhere near as highly as the iconic original. They could have the perfect cast and it wouldn't come close. That being said, there's still a really good chance that the film could be fantastic! Visually, if its true that they're going with authentic setting it will look completely different and I imagine they will go out of their way to make it beautiful.

Does depend on casting Eliza.

re: 'Ugly Betty' to have a musical episode this season  Jul 14 2009, 06:13:39 AM
They've wanted to do a musical episode for a while now...I'm wondering whether they're doing it now because the future is uncertain for the show, so want to make sure they got the chance?

I don't think a 'bursting out into song' musical would work here, because it's not like a slightly warped reality where it would be accepted as one of its quirks.

Maybe 'Meade' has a company show every year and 'Mode' are forced to join in? Or...maybe they have to put on a concert to rais

re: Who DESERVES a jukebox musical?  Jul 7 2009, 07:46:43 AM
This may be an unpopular choice, but...

I'd actually be interested to see a show created by Lady GaGa and her 'Haus'.

Not a musical, and not with her famous tunes, but rather a conceptual futuristic/electro/glam/pop/rock extravaganza with elements of burlesque.

The closest thing I can link it to would be something like 'Love' (The Beatles/Cirque Du Soleil show)...but without freaky clowns.

It would obviously have to wait till she's more established and has gro

re: List of planned movie-musicals?  Jul 1 2009, 05:25:53 PM
Well I'd say Footloose is definite...if they still wanted to continue without Zac Efron, they must be serious.

Hairspray 2...hmm...I have a feeling they might not do it if they don't get their stars back. I highly doubt Zac Efron would do it unless major, major bucks are put forward.

My Fair Lady too...isn't that quite far into pre-production?

I feel In The Heights is more likely than Rock of Ages...I mean, Jennifer Lopez has her claws into it and Rock of Ages seems su

re: Justin Timberlake to star in Guy Ritche's 'GUYS AND DOLLS' remake  Jul 1 2009, 01:25:41 PM
Guy Ritchie and his man crush on Jason Statham is WORSE than Tim Burton's obsession with Johnny Depp.

At least the latter is actually a good actor who has repeatedly proved how versatile he is.

Jason Statham plays the exact same character in everything he is in, regardless of whether it is written in the script.

Worse. Idea. Ever.

re: Enchanted: The Musical  Jul 1 2009, 12:48:35 PM
I always thought Hercules would be fantastic!

The songs already in it are great and the Greek Chorus alone would be worth the watch.

Hercules - Maybe Cheyenne Jackson?
Meg - Kate Shindle...or...maybe even Karen Olivo.
Hades - Brian d'Arcy James.
Philoctetes - Can you imagine Harvey Feirstein? Classic.
Pegasis - John Tartagilia.

Gospels - Sasha Allen, Shoshana Bean, Tracie Thoms...

re: Enchanted: The Musical  Jun 28 2009, 04:49:08 PM
I like the ideas being put forward so far, it really makes it look possible.

The video screen of the animated scenes and live action for reality would enhance the whole fantasy/reality conflict...but I feel it would flatten the potential of the fantasy world.

Having the story book pages projected onto the curtain, which has the 'pop up' scene of Andalasia, which then fades into the actual set....or, could make it more of a dramatic burst into the world, with the animals being p
