re: The Greatest Musical Theatre Voices Ever?  Feb 17 2021, 10:35:41 AM

I can't possibly come up with a full list, but I know Gavin Creel is on it. like buttah.

The Ratatouille Musical is HAPPENING.  Jan 1 2021, 10:39:15 PM

ACL2006 said: "I don't think we've seen the last of this musical, either."

I do. Not in a snarky way- I thought it was cute and fun and well done, and didn't need to be anything more(I don't think it wanted to be). It gave me the closure I needed after following the trend for months, and raised a ton for a great cause.

But it showed us that these crowdsourced, community-made shows can work and be successful- where can we go from here?

The Music Man is up on the Marquee!!  Sep 21 2020, 10:11:42 AM

From a design perspective- it's extremely busy/hard to read, uninteresting, and the color scheme is awful and exacerbates the other problems. It has NONE of the honest vintage feel of Hello, Dolly's marquee.

I'm confused. Who approved this??

Unpopular theatre opinions  Jul 28 2020, 08:36:25 PM

With all respect to the talent of all involved, Come From Away is one of the worst shows I've ever seen.

Starlight Express is campy pure entertainment and needs a revival ASAP.

The first time I heard Hamilton, I thought it sounded exactly like In The Heights, but ITH is better.

Hamilton is not groundbreaking, people just don't know enough musicals.

The "rise" of commercialist theatre (shows based on popular movies created just to sell tickets) is

Ellen's Stardust Diner Closing?  Jul 20 2020, 10:32:44 PM

Anyone know anything about this? https://www.reddit.com/r/Broadway/comments/huqdwn/ellens_stardust_diner_might_be_closed_for_good/

Greatest Theatrical Comedy Performances You Have Seen  Jul 15 2020, 02:15:27 PM

CHRISTOPHER FITZGERALD in Waitress 1000000%. The definition of a scene-stealing performance. One of the best performances I've ever seen, period.

What Shows Were Great Surprises?  Jul 15 2020, 02:11:35 PM

I saw the revival of Once On This Island early in the run (before the positive word of mouth began to spread) on a terrible, stressful, rainy day. I really didn't want to go, but I ended up having one of the best theatrical experiences of my life and I saw the show several more times over the run. I miss it all the time.

Actors With Unhealthy Singing Technique?  Jul 12 2020, 06:50:05 PM

I think that an important discussion needs to be had about what is asked of performers doing 8 shows a week(and press appearances). Audra, who we all know has stunning technique and the very best training, nearly ruined her voice forever doing Porgy and Bess. She had a vocal hemorrhage and though that she would never sing again. As other people have mentioned, it is so often an issue, especially now as broadway has lost mainstream popularity, of singers being pushed too far regardless of tech

Bad Lyrics  Jul 12 2020, 06:35:00 PM

I absolutely HATE

"Alexander Hamilton"

"Where's your family from?"

"Unimportant there's a million things I haven't done"

The biggest issue is is Lin's lack of pause after unimportant, but why does he say the rest of that line? It makes no sense.

Where will theatre reopen in the country first?  Jun 17 2020, 09:16:25 PM

I have friends in Montana, Delaware, Houston, and Virginia who are currently in rehearsals for shows. All different areas of the country with different leadership and levels of outbreak. I think that reopening will exist in smaller nonequity and community theatres first of course, but it might be sooner than we think. Scary.

Hamilton on SGN.... huh  Apr 25 2020, 12:49:10 AM

I'm not one to start conspiracies, but....

Does anyone else think that there's something off about Hamilton's performance on John Krasinski's Some Good News last week? Anyone who has tried to sing over Zoom knows that it is impossible to sync up. Also, the mix would NOT sound that good if it were live.

Saving Playbills?  Mar 31 2020, 10:12:43 PM

SELL THEM!!! Please. There's history in there that plenty of collectors (like me!) would love to see.

Flying Over Sunset  Mar 9 2020, 01:16:47 PM

I'm looking at buying tickets in the loge, what is the view like? The VB seems small, but is the loge far from the stage?

Broadway and the Coronavirus  Mar 9 2020, 01:10:53 PM

AndreyIsntHere said: "Hadestown tickets seem to have had a steep price drop. Looking at the rest of March, they're as low as $79 in the front mezz. There's some orchestra seats for less than $100 as well. I'm not sure if this is connected to the virus or not, nor have I checked prices for other shows, but I assume it's connected. I'll probably buy tickets for round 3 once I check my own schedule. Might as well take advantage of discounts while I can, I suppose.

Broadway and the Coronavirus  Mar 7 2020, 03:04:25 PM
I have a trip scheduled for next week to come to the city and see as many shows as possible. But as of today, New York is in a state of emergency. How do we think this will affect the city? Since shows in Italy and Texas have been canceled, what are the odds that broadway shows dont perform? Will the subway shut down?
Lying Broadway discount flyers  Jan 22 2020, 11:11:06 PM

This is a stupid question, but how does someone apply discount codes? I tried to use one for company and girl from the north country today but couldnt find a place to enter a code. Normally I buy tickets in person, so I haven't used telecharge in forever.

Erika Henningsen to Depart Mean Girls  Jan 22 2020, 01:08:44 PM

I saw Olivia Kaufmann as Cady earlier this week and LOVED her. I hope she replaces.

Round 1 of Tony Eligibility 2019-2020  Oct 24 2019, 04:42:04 PM

Does anyone know if Robyn Hurder's part is big enough to be considered supporting?
