2014 BWW Album Awards - WORDS SHARED WITH FRIENDS Sep 23

Just in case anyone on the Broadway Board may be interested - WORDS SHARED WITH FRIENDS (an album of songs with my lyrics) has been nominated in the Best New Compilation Album category in the 2014 BWW Album Awards. As it is a UK album, I thought I'd just make musical theatre fans across the pond aware of it.
The vocals on the album are by a wonderful selection of West End and Off-West End performers, including Jos Slovick (Georg in Spring Awakening, Andrej in Once), Will Barratt (Bob Crewe in Jersey Boys, Raoul in Phantom, Enjolras in Les Mis), Ben Stott (Jack in Into The Woods, Boq in Wicked), Rebecca Trehearn (Marcy in Dogfight, Molly in Ghost and soon to be seen as Oolie/Donna in City Of Angels) and many more. There are also a couple of numbers with vocals by the USA's own Sarah Galbraith (formerly Sarah Lewis) who has performed in all 3 US productions of The Phantom Of The Opera (Broadway, Tour and Las Vegas - covering and playing Christine in the Vegas show) - and since moving to London has played leads in 3 highly acclaimed Off-West End musicals (Rita in Steel Pier, Florence in Chess and Susan in [Title Of Show]).

Can We Talk About How Great the Christmas Carol Score is? Oct 15

I LOVE this score! (Well basically love anything by Alan Menken and am a huge admirer of Lynn Ahrens' work.)
The show will be getting its London premiere this Christmas - at the intimate Off-West End Tabard Theatre. So it will be a pretty different staging to the production at MSG! (There was a fantastic recent production of Rent at the Tabard so I'm guessing their Christmas Carol will be pretty impressive too.)

Here's another video of a song from MY LAND'S SHORE that I thought members of the Broadway board may enjoy - AIR FOR A WISE CELTIC FOOL, performed at the Actors' Church, Covent Garden, London last October by West End star Killian Donnelly (currently playing Tony in BILLY ELLIOT, previously Raoul in THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA & Enjolras in LES MISERABLES - and also, of course, was Combefierre in the movie of LES MISERABLES).

I thought that maybe members of the Broadway Board would like to see this video "teaser" from the recent London workshop production of the epic new musical MY LAND'S SHORE (by Christopher J. Orton & myself) at RADA Studios.
"My Land's Shore" is a tale of conflict, social injustice, moral dilemmas, love, guilt and heartbreak. Set during the infamous Merthyr Rising in Wales in 1831, the musical re-tells the story of Richard Lewis (aka Dic Penderyn), an ordinary man of conviction and integrity borne along by the wheels of history in extraordinary times who became the first martyr of the Welsh working class.
A Studio Cast recording was released by SimG Records in February 2012 (available from http://www.mylandsshoremusical.com , on amazon.com & on iTunes). Songwriters Stiles and Drewe (Mary Poppins, Honk!) described the My Land's Shore score as "soaring, passionate and hauntingly melodic".
The video footage now available on youtube features a montage of scenes from the workshop production (with a cast led by West End stars David Hunter, Hal Fowler, Rebecca Trehearn, Kelly Anne Gower, Will Barratt, Aled Powys Williams, Lisa Ann Wood, Matthew Barrow & Ryan Gibb). The audio you will hear is the song "A Lonely Voice" with solo vocals by the incredible Will Barratt (The Phantom Of The Opera, Sweeney Todd).

I'm heading over to NYC from the Uk in a few weeks time and have just booked my ticket for Drood - and I am VERY excited!I've always loved the score and really enjoyed the recent London production. And this Broadway cast is to die for!

The London production of Top Hat is an absolute joy! Genuinely witty book, fantastic dancing and - of course - a glorious Berlin score. Broadway deserves to see it!
(Btw - I was a little underwhelmed by the - IMO - overhyped West End production of Singing In the Rain.)

I thought people of the Broadway board may like to take a look at and listen to this new video of a song from the brand new epic musical MY LAND'S SHORE, which is set to take the UK by storm. It was filmed at a charity concert (Giggin4Good) at St Paul's Church, Covent Garden, London on Sunday October 7. The song - AIR FOR A WISE CELTIC FOOL - is sung by West End star, KILLIAN DONNELLY (recently Raoul in the Phantom Of The Opera and, before that, Enjolras in Les Miserables and about to be seen as Tony in Billy Elliot and also as Combeferre in the Les Miserables movie).
MY LAND'S SHORE will be workshopped in London next January with a stellar West End cast - watch this space for further announcements! The Studio Cast album is already available:

There will be a high profile workshop of MY LAND'S SHORE (written by Christopher J. Orton & myself) in London early next year, followed (hopefully) by a full production later in the year. Announcements of full details will be made in due course.
Director Craig Revel Horwood (Chess, Martin Guerre) described My Land's Shore as "a powerful story with a beautiful, soaring score - a Welsh Les Mis" and Stiles & Drewe (Mary Poppins, Honk) wrote that the show has "a soaring, passionate and hauntingly melodic score which, though set in 1831, has a resonance and relevance in today's Eurozone era".
The album shot right up the Dress Circle Best Seller list when it was released in February and has been selling well across the globe since then - in the UK, Germany, USA, Australia & Japan.
