secondstar- There are a hodgepodge of sketches- some original works and a bunch of high quality reproductions of various costumes and sets from on and off Broadway. Sometimes they even have 3-d models up there. They can go all the way in price from around $200 to about $5 for the reproductions. Not all of the designs are from really well known shows, and there are even some opera and ballet designs in there, but if you're looking to make a more thoughtful unique purchase, I think it's the table

Once had coasters unsigned and signed by Steve, and little bracelets with guitar picks used in the show on them.
The scenic/costume design table was my favorite again this year. I picked up 2 signed prints of the Wicked student outfits. Also loved the Phantom table, which was selling a bunch of used props for a buck or two- I bought some of the 'opera' sheet music. Newsies was doing something similar and selling the sketches and papers from the show, but at a bit higher prices.

Is there any specific talk in various spheres of another ITW revival on West End or screen? Seems like some Michelle Dockery audition video for Cinderella has popped up online recently for it...

When I Grow Up- always and forever
The staging of it is so simple and beautiful, if I'm having a bad day, it'll send me into tears every time.
That being said, 'Telly' has my flat out fav line of any musical of the past few years: "All I know I learned from telly/the bigger the telly the smarter the man/You can tell from my big telly/just what a clever fellow I am."

The score was good, not incredible though. haha, there was a bit of riffing though. Not excessively. And there's one song that makes such clever use of the lyric-less 'bah dah bum' phrasing that it was absolutely forgivable. Mostly though, it was pretty tightly written- effective, but the more traditional songs were more straight forward than clever in many ways. Luckily, the direction and the actors added in plenty of touches during them that fleshed out their characters and ideas.

Eddie Birdlace was River's role and it's being played by Derek Klena--- who is quite good, despite having the disadvantage of playing a guy who is basically an enormous dick.
dreaming- I didn't rush, but did $30 under 30. The show looked sold out last night though, so I wouldn't be overly optimistic about rush prospects.

That's so odd that you say that, After Eight, because I thought the show got infinitely better in the 2nd Act, and actually found that the 1st half dragged along a bit. I guess I like seeing requited love better than unrequited twat-age. X)
Sidenote: I watched the movie last night, and have to say that the show seems more negative in Marine portrayal than the film. But maybe that's because it's River Phoenix in the film, and he could portrayal any jerk up to maybe Hitler himself, and I'

I really thought the war scene was well done too. Or maybe not the scene itself particularly, but the transition between that and the scene following was so stark and dramatic that you began to grasp what he was meant to be going through. It did go on for a while, but I think it was necessary in what it was trying to convey afterward.

Just got back from it-- I'll try to keep it relatively vague, since I don't want to spoil too much and keep people from going into it fresh. I will disclaim that I've never seen the original film this is based on...
I do have to say that it has the strongest book of a musical I can think of since maybe Next to Normal, and I might even say it's stronger and more complicated than that. I was amazed at such a simple story mining such complicated issues like the barbarity of soldier

Bertie isn't transfering?? Major, major loss. He's absolutely brilliant in the role. Even though the production really hinges on the Matildas, Bertie was always the real click that took it to a level of zany perfection.

Yes, there are several other threads on this, not to mention the copious amounts of awards and glowing reviews to reference.
Personally though, to beat an already loved horse to death, I saw it a few months back and thought it was brilliant, inspiring and completely magical. I'd put it around on par with Book of Mormon in terms of quality. The one worry I have is the translation of the British-isms of the show to the US- whether they will transpose the show entirely (ala the film versi

Well, if that was the intent, I don't think either show was gender saturated in its casting. Matilda may have a female lead, but Miss Trunchbull, the other leading role, is played by the very male Bertie Carvel.
And to add, I haven't heard any 'meh' from Matilda thus far. And on my end, I'd put it on a quality level with Book of Mormon, ahead of any new musical on Bway this season.

No, I don't think that's a fair comparison. I'd hoped we were beyond this sort of gender bias in this decade, but if you must ask, all the times I saw Matilda on the West End, there were plenty of young boys in the audience. Must add also I saw plenty of dads enjoying themselves with the show.
Quality supersedes gender preferences if it's notable enough (you don't hear people calling BoM a 'boys show' do you?), and Matilda is good enough to speak to everyone, boy, girl, all ages. It's

newintown- I think that's absolutely the case. Just Saturday one of the complaints I heard at intermission was that the dancing was 'too Broadway' in the show. The man was saying how it looked like kids dancing in the street in the movie, but here it was too precise. They were also peeved at the lyric changes in 'Seize the Day,' and when the original lyrics are merely the repetition of 'Neighbor to neighbor/Father to son/One for all/And all for one' (far from Sondheim) over and over again, I thi
