Sex on stage  Mar 17 2024, 11:55:05 AM

Perhaps they’ve made changes since I saw it, but I actually found the sex scenes in Teeth to be somewhat tame, and so ridiculous as to never approach titillating or gratuitous. I don’t know how that show would have worked without it.

The house staff was nice enough to allow me to relocate to the house right orchestra box when I saw this. Having a box to yourself is the way to see any show, honestly. You don’t mis

My take is that Amy Ryan was leading from a place of fear instead of a place of anger. When Father Flynn was alone with her, I really thought she believed she was in the presence of Satan. This is a woman who has spent her whole life taking orders from the patriarchal diocese, and now she's stepping out of line because she knows unspeakable evils are

He plays both adult characters—the overbearing, “spare the rod, spoil the child” father/pastor and the over-the-top, lecherous gynecologist.

If there have been absences, it hasn’t affected the chemistry between the leads at all. They were all in  for the matinee this past Wednesday and, my god, they work well together. This is such an electric production.

Aaron Tveit, Sutton Foster will next star in ‘Sweeney Todd'  Feb 24 2024, 04:50:39 PM

Re: Stage Door. I’m not sure about Aaron, but as I was walking back to my hotel Wednesday night after seeing Doubt, I came upon the crowd gathered around the stage door at the Lunt. Sutton came out and was immediately whisked into a car, so it doesn’t appear she does.

Yeah, I didn’t mind the slower build, but the ending seemed to be an attempt to give the material a greater sense of depth and mythology than it needed (in the weirdest f-ed up Once on this Island way?). If I had a criticism, it would be that the last scene wasn’t really needed to accomplish the s

A BEAUTIFUL NOISE to announce closing date soon  Feb 22 2024, 11:01:15 PM

Rushed the matinee today because it was the only Thursday matinee option. It was probably 80-85% full. The crowd seemed into it. Nick made a post-show announcement about the closing and urged the audience to “tell their friends” to come see the show. What a weird premise for a book, but the ensemble made the show. This show was not made for me, but it will play for the old folks in Peoria. It will be find success as a road show, I think.

Michael R. Jackson & Anna K. Jacobs' TEETH Musical at Playwrights Horizons (Winter 2024)  Feb 22 2024, 10:51:04 PM

I saw this tonight and thought it was in good shape for a second preview. There were some minor technical blips and perhaps an over reliance on irreverent one-liners, but it was enjoyable, silly, and fun. There are A LOT of songs, but it doesn’t feel overly long. Dawn’s solo songs, in particular, are really strong. And the actor who plays her is a star; she’s got great presence. The promise keeper girls also work well together. I enjoyed it, and the crowd also seemed in

I would certainly bet on them setting aside seats. I got an email from the box office notifying me that my original aisle seat was being updated to reflect a &ldqu

I got an email today from Playwrights Horizons that lists a 115 minute run time with no intermission. That feels a bit long for a one-act, and for a show based on a 90 minute movie, but I’m excited to see this tomorrow.

Beanie Feldstein Departing FUNNY GIRL on July 31 (Two Months Earlier Than Originally Announced)  Aug 7 2022, 11:57:19 AM

I haven’t been able to find a satisfactory answer to this through searching online: is Lea doing 8 shows a week when she takes over? I recall there were rumors she would do fewer.

There's a lot of people who remain angry at Lea Michele even after apologizing: I apologize for my behavior and for any pain which I have caused -which the lady in that tiktok video that Jordan linked claims she never did.

People are going to hear what they want to hear and feel what they want to feel and I guarantee you that if Lea Michele went to the top of the highest mountain right now and gave a heartfelt apology for all that she has allegedly done it still would not be enough for these people.

Lea will go on, play this role and she may even surprise some people, make a comeback and get all her flowers and guess what? These people will still stay mad. That is too bad for them because holding on to that much hate and vitriol is not healthy.

At this point they are not hurting Lea Michele - they're hurting themselves.
"

It seems indisputable that she was awful to a lot of people over her career, in particular to those who had less power than she did. When she did apologize—only after being called out—her apology did not take ownership of her behavior. I don’t blame anyone for not accepting it. And while she needed to apologize, no one is required to accept an apology from someone who has harmed them. That doesn’t make the victim small or petty. It’s okay to write someone off when they hurt you.

Obviously the producers are betting it won’t matter. They’re probably right. She will likely be quite good. Bad people win all the time.

I haven’t been in nearly all of them, but the Schoenfeld and Brooks Atkinson are rough. Fortunately, ushers at both places have been kind to me and moved me into other chairs. American Airlines has been the most comfortable for me, but the Minskoff and Friedman are pretty good, too.

75th TONY Award Snubs!!  Jun 13 2022, 09:57:04 AM

It wasn’t a surprise or an upset, as everyone knew Patti was going to win (and she’s great), but Jennifer Simard’s performance in Company was a lot more interesting…
