The Whole Backstage Hosts Dot Moore Award Ceremony 12/20

By:

The Whole Backstage Board of Directors will host a ceremony and reception in honor of Dot Moore, Founding Mother of the WBS Theatre, on Sunday, December 20 at 2 p.m. As recipient of the 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Alabama State Council on the Arts, Ms. Moore was honored in Montgomery earlier this year. "In collaboration with this state award, we would like to give local recognition to Dot for this incredible honor. For more than 40 years, Dot has worked continuously and made contributions to the Arts in north Alabama while sharing her creativity and energy with thousands. It is only fitting that The Alabama State Council on the Arts selected her with highest distinction among many nominees. We would like to invite all Patrons and friends to attend this special event", noted Katherine Brewer, Event Coordinator.

As part of the WBS December 20th ceremony, there will be a brief program, conceived and directed by Johnny Brewer, as performed in Montgomery for the state awards festivities. This presentation incorporates songs and monologues from previous productions directed by Dot, and performed by the actual actors from her shows.

Other special guests and participants in the ceremony include Guntersville's Mayor Hembree and Buck Woodall, WBS Benefactor, along with Al Head, Executive Director of the Alabama State Council on the Arts. For the Awards program in Montgomery, Mr. Head wrote, "Dot is an individual who has made theatre come alive and in the process touched the lives of many generations of Alabamians". In describing the evolvement of the WBS, Johnny Brewer explained, "After the deaths of 3 teens in Marshall County in the summer of 1968, the editor of the local paper, Porter Harvey, with Dot Moore, along with several business men in the area, held a town meeting to discuss what could be done to create a safe haven for the youth of the community. That was The catalyst for a performing arts group that has now found a home at the old rock school".

Make plans to attend the ceremony and reception, and congratulate Ms Moore on a great accomplishment. There is no charge and this event is open to the public. For more information, call 582.7469 or visit The Whole Backstage website at: www.wholebackstage.com.
