Víctor Ullate intends to create "a bridge between the traditional audience of the ballet and another that contradicts everything established, through dance. "

From the immaculate aesthetics of Balanchine to the dark inspiration of Seville, Madrid Ballet shows how Spanish passion can tame classical academism.

This mixed four-part programme starts with heartfelt thanks to Maurice Béjart for everything that he has passed onto Victor Ullate and that Ullate reflects on...but always "après toi"… continuing with the famous "Jaleos", neoclassical ballet which has thrilled audiences for sixteen years. In the "Songs of a Wayfarer", against the stirring music of Mahler, Eduardo Lao sculpts humanity and destiny, showing their unsolvable link with eternity. The performance concludes with the final creation, "Bolero", as a homage to Maurice Béjart with whom Victor Ullate collaborated for many years.

"Choreographing Bolero is a challenge that I've always wanted to take on. I think that a piece of this type interpreted by a Spanish choreographer can bring a new vision. The theme of the 1920s is no coincidence, through this I seek to dedicate the work to Sergei Diaghilev, founder of the Russian Ballets, who changed the conception of dance by taking away its exclusively feminine image. I also dedicate my work to my mentor, Maurice Béjart, who claimed men had rightful a place in ballet just as their female counterparts."
