Deze hilarische klucht over ‘burgerlijke ongehoorzaamheid' was in de jaren zeventig Fo's meest gespeelde stuk en is nu door de economische crisis actueler dan ooit.
Twee arbeidersvrouwen plunderen uit woede over de gigantische prijsstijgingen een supermarkt en moeten deze waren thuis verstoppen voor hun gezagsgetrouwe mannen. Daardoor komt een 'kluchtmechanisme' op gang dat niet meer te stoppen is: Vrouwen die plots hoogzwanger geraken, processies naar de heilige Eulalia, met zuurstof opgeblazen politie, de theatrale fantasie van Fo is onuitputtelijk.
Het knappe van Fo is dat hij er via de lach in slaagt om - zelfs bij mensen die het niet met hem eens zijn - sympathie te wekken voor spontane acties als nieuwe vorm van sociaal protest.
